myna-daily-brief

If vault_path is not in context, read ~/.myna/config.yaml first. If the file does not exist, tell the user to run /myna:setup and stop.

Sets up or refreshes your day. Spawns parallel subagents to read email and Slack, then surfaces action items directly in the daily note alongside the calendar and task data. Rerunnable at any time — each run prepends a fresh snapshot at the top of the daily note; previous snapshots stay untouched.

When Invoked

Normal sync ("sync", "good morning", "set up my day"): Runs for today.

Plan tomorrow ("plan tomorrow", "set up tomorrow"): Runs for the next business day. Creates tomorrow's daily note and populates it with known calendar events and tasks due that day.

Step 1: Read Config

Read from _system/config/workspace.yaml:

• work_hours.start and work_hours.end → for capacity calculations
• timezone → for date resolution

The calendar event prefix is hardcoded as [Myna]. Event type labels are also hardcoded: Focus, Task, Reminder.

Read from _system/config/projects.yaml, _system/config/people.yaml, _system/config/meetings.yaml.

If workspace.yaml is missing or unreadable, stop and tell the user: "workspace.yaml not found at _system/config/workspace.yaml. Myna can't run without it."

Step 2: Determine Target Date and Current Time

Get the current date, time, and day of week using the configured timezone — always via Bash, never derived internally:

Timestamp rule: The {HH:MM} in ## Daily Brief — {HH:MM} is the literal output of TZ={timezone} date +"%H:%M" captured during this run. Never use an assumed, rounded, or "morning" time — always use the actual wall-clock time from the Bash command above.

Normal sync: today's date from the command above. Plan tomorrow: next weekday from today's date. If today is Friday, tomorrow = Monday.

Daily note path: Journal/{YYYY-MM-DD}.md Weekly note path: Journal/{YYYY-W\d\d}.md (ISO week, e.g. 2026-W18)

If "plan tomorrow" is run again after the user has already edited the note: treat it as a re-run. Prepend a new snapshot, never overwrite Morning Focus or any user-written content.

Step 3: Weekly Note (first sync of the week only)

If no weekly note exists for the ISO week containing the target date:

1. Archive previous weekly note: Glob Journal/*.md for files matching \d{4}-W\d{2}.md. If any file is found and it is not the weekly note being created, move it to Journal/Archive/Weekly/ using Bash mv. This mv is a required action — run it and record whether it succeeded or there was nothing to move. You will report this outcome in Step 8.

Populate Week Capacity by reading this week's calendar events (duration + count per day) and querying tasks with due dates in the coming week. Flag any day with more than 6 hours of meetings as packed. Suggest rebalancing if one day looks heavier than adjacent days.

Step 4: Archive Previous Daily Note

Normal sync (today): Before creating or refreshing today's daily note, glob Journal/*.md for files matching the date-only daily pattern \d{4}-\d{2}-\d{2}.md. Only files whose full filename matches this pattern exactly are eligible for archiving — this explicitly excludes contributions-{YYYY-MM-DD}.md files, which accumulate in Journal/ root and are never archived. Any eligible file found whose name does not match today's date is the previous daily note — move it to Journal/Archive/Daily/ using Bash mv. There should be at most one such file (the previous day's note). This mv is a required action — run it and record the result (what file was moved, or that nothing matched). You will report this outcome in Step 8 whether or not a file was moved.

Plan tomorrow: Do NOT archive today's daily note. Today's note remains the active record for the current day. Archive happens only on the normal sync run for the new target date. Only archive any prior daily note that is not today's date and not tomorrow's date.

Step 5: Gather Sync Data

If "plan tomorrow" mode: Spawn only Subagent A (Vault Scan) for tomorrow's date. Skip Subagents B and C — email and Slack are today-only. Proceed to Step 6 with only vault scan data. Do not write ### Emails or ### Slack sections to tomorrow's note.

If normal sync (today): Spawn 3 top-level subagents in parallel via the Task tool. Do not wait for one before starting the others. All three run concurrently.

Subagent A — Vault Scan

Handles calendar, tasks, blockers, milestones, and review queue. This is the same data as the previous Step 5 in the sync skill. Prompt the subagent with:

6. MILESTONES: Read people.yaml and all People files. Find birthdays (`birthday: MM-DD`) or work anniversaries (`work_anniversary: YYYY-MM-DD`) within the next 7 days. Return: [{ person, type, date }]. If none, return [].

The `total` in review_queue is the sum of work + people + self + inbox + instructions.

Subagent B — Email Orchestrator

Reads and classifies inbox emails. Prompt the subagent with:

**Action Required** — direct questions addressed to the user, approval requests, tasks explicitly assigned to the user, hard deadlines requiring user action. Criteria: the email explicitly asks the user to do something, approve something, or respond by a deadline.

**FYI** — worth knowing but no action needed. The user is CC'd, the topic is relevant to their work, or it's a status update from a project or person they care about.

**Not Surfaced** — newsletters, automated notifications, marketing, system alerts, subscription digests, out-of-office replies, meeting acceptances/declines (with no attached questions). Do not surface these.

**Thread-resolved check:** If multiple emails in the batch are from the same thread_id, and the thread already shows a reply from a party other than the user that resolves the original request, downgrade the original request to FYI or drop to not-surfaced.

Reads and classifies Slack messages. Prompt the subagent with:

Step 5b: Surface Reminders

Read {vault_path}/_system/data/reminders.md. For each unchecked item (- [ ]) whose 📅 date is on or before {target_date} (catch-all — a reminder from a skipped day still fires today):

1. Extract the reminder text and the [time:: {HH:MM}] value if present.
2. Collect them into a reminders list: [{ text, time_if_set }].
3. For each surfaced reminder, mark it delivered by changing - [ ] to - [x] in _system/data/reminders.md (use Edit). Reminders are fire-once — do NOT carry them forward to tomorrow or any future date.

If _system/data/reminders.md does not exist or has no matching open items, reminders is an empty list. Proceed silently — do not write a ### Reminders section if there are no reminders to surface.

Reminder exclusion: items with [type:: reminder] must never appear in DUE_TODAY, OVERDUE_SIGNAL, or OVERDUE_OTHERS surfaces. That exclusion was applied in the Subagent A prompt above; do not second-guess or re-include them here.

Step 7: Generate Meeting Prep Files

For each calendar event today:

1. Determine the meeting file path from the event title and attendees:

4. For /myna:daily-brief, generate minimal prep — enough to orient the user before the meeting without the full depth that /myna:prep-meeting provides:

   • Carry-forward items: unchecked items from the previous session's Prep section (if the meeting file exists)

Print the daily brief summary. Keep it short — one line per category. Include the Obsidian URI and full disk path for the daily note created or updated.

The "Daily archive" line is always printed on every normal sync run — it is not optional. Print the actual filename that was moved, or state that nothing needed archiving. Never silently omit this line.

The "Weekly archive" line is printed whenever a new weekly note is created (first sync of the week) — it is not optional in that case. Print the actual filename that was moved, or state that nothing needed archiving.

Then print the Briefing bullets as a quick-scan list.

Re-run "plan tomorrow" after user edits: Read existing tomorrow note. If user has written in Morning Focus, do not overwrite it. Prepend a new snapshot (same as normal re-run).

No milestones found: If no birthdays or work anniversaries fall within the next 7 days, omit the milestones bullet from the Briefing silently.

No email MCP: Skip ### Emails section. Note in Briefing and output.
