Convert — Protractor

Converts Protractor test suites to any supported target, and emits Protractor from any source (flagged as emission to a deprecated framework).

When to use

Trigger when:

• Imports: const { browser, element, by, $, $$, ExpectedConditions } = require('protractor').
• protractor.conf.js / protractor.conf.ts config file.
• Angular-specific locators: by.model('...'), by.binding('...'), by.repeater('...'), by.buttonText('...').
• Jasmine describe/it with Protractor globals (browser, element, by).
• e2e/ or test/e2e/ folder structure (Angular CLI default).
• @angular/cli + protractor in package.json.

Deprecation context

Protractor reached end-of-life in August 2022. Angular team recommends migrating to Cypress (for beginner-friendly DX), Playwright (for full-featured modern E2E), or WebDriverIO (for Selenium/standards compatibility). This skill prefers Playwright by default on conversion unless the user specifies otherwise.

• Protractor 5.x and 6.x.

• Non-Angular web apps via browser.waitForAngularEnabled(false).
• Control-flow mode (sync) and async/await mode (SELENIUM_PROMISE_MANAGER: false).
• Page objects (Protractor's standard pattern).
• Cucumber integration via protractor-cucumber-framework.
• configurationArguments and capabilities for browser setup.

Out of scope

• Protractor's deprecated browser.driver raw WebDriver calls when they do highly custom things — flag and preserve as js_exec.
• browser.controlFlow() manual queue manipulation — flag as requires-review.
