Replay is free (v18.69.0). Record a journey once with trace: true — per-step JSONL lands in ~/.cbrowser/traces/<journeyId>.jsonl (page state stored as a sha256 hash; secrets and raw HTML redacted by construction). Replay with replayTrace: <path>: deterministic, zero per-step LLM calls. Prefer replay for regression checks and debugging over re-running paid journeys. Dynamic pages legitimately diverge — TraceDivergenceError names the exact step.

The manifest is the point. An AI agent cannot watch a video file. manifest.json gives it per-frame t_ms, the crop used, ssim_prev, anomaly, tracking, and the console/network events inside each frame's window — plus a top-level change_points array naming the frame indices where the page actually changed. Read the manifest to find when something happened, then look only at those frames.
Two behaviours worth knowing up front:
- Capture is event-driven. Chromium's screencast emits frames when the compositor commits, so a static page produces very few. Idle spans are reported as
frame_gaps and the manifest clock is wall-time, so t_ms always matches real elapsed time and the GIF still plays at true speed.
- mp4 needs a full ffmpeg. Playwright's bundled binary is a stripped WebM/VP8 build with no mp4 muxer or H.264 encoder. Use
--format webm, or point CBROWSER_FFMPEG_PATH at a full ffmpeg.
capture is not record. cbrowser record is the Tier-2 feature that records user actions for test generation. capture records the screen. Separate commands, deliberately.
