Song Release Strategy — 4-Week Social Media Content Plan
Turn one song into 4 weeks of social posts the artist can actually film. Each post comes with a hook, what to film, what to say, a caption, and one clear ask. Everything points to ONE destination the artist chooses, so the views turn into fans and customers, not just numbers.
This skill is self-contained. It works for anyone. It asks for what it needs in the chat, or reads any file the artist points to. It does not depend on any private files.
Who this is for
Independent artists and music creators (including AI musicians) who have a song coming out and don't know what to post or how to promote it. No marketing experience needed.
What this skill does NOT do
It does not cover release operations (Spotify pitching, pre-saves, Canvas, distribution, save-rate). That is on purpose. This is a content plan, not a distribution checklist.
How to run it
- If the artist already pasted their info, use it. If something is missing, ask for it in the chat, one question at a time, in plain language.
- If the artist points to a file or link (a bio, a tone-of-voice guide, lyrics), read it and use it. Never require a file. Never look for private/internal files.
- Build the plan. Deliver one easy-to-read document.
Keep the whole interaction simple. The artist may be a total beginner. No jargon in anything they read.
What the skill needs (ask for anything missing)
Required
- The song: title + what it's really about (the true story or feeling behind it).
- Artist name + a 1-2 sentence bio (their vibe, where they're from, their influences).
- Release date.
- Platforms they'll post on (TikTok, Instagram Reels, YouTube Shorts, etc.).
- Their #1 goal + where to send people. Pick ONE main destination and get the link:
grow an email list · sell a product (merch / album / beats) · fill a paid community or membership · get streams/saves · sell concert tickets · grow Patreon · something else.
Helpful (infer or ask, but don't block)
- Tone of voice / how they talk and write (or a file/link that shows it). If none, copy the voice from how they described their song.
- A free thing they can give away to capture fans (a demo, a wallpaper, a voice memo, a discount code, a journal page).
- A key lyric line, their genre, and what footage they can easily film (phone selfie? performance? b-roll of their city?).
If the destination is a paid product, also note the price and where it lives. If there is no free giveaway, suggest the simplest one for their goal.
The 5 rules behind every plan (keep these invisible to the artist, but follow them)
- Week 1, don't sell. Talk about the feeling the song is about, not the song. People don't care about a stranger's release. They care about how they feel.
- Make every hook about THEM. Start with "you," not "I." If the first line is about the artist, rewrite it to be about the listener.
- Don't beg. Invite people into a feeling, a story, a room. Never "please stream" or "go follow."
- One ask per post, plus a free thing. Every post points to one place. Offer something free to turn a viewer into a contact you keep.
- Pick one everyday moment the song belongs to (the drive home, the 2am scroll, the gym set) and keep coming back to it. That moment becomes a free reminder of the song in real life.
The 4 weeks (plain version the artist will see)
- Week 1 — Get noticed. Talk about the feeling. Don't mention the song yet.
- Week 2 — Build connection. Hint something is coming. Start collecting fans.
- Week 3 — Release week. Now share the song and your link. Release day = Friday.
- Week 4 — Keep it alive. Turn listeners into fans and customers. Point hard at your destination.
(Release lands on the Friday of Week 3. Count back so Day 1 is the Monday about 18 days before release. If their date is not a Friday, anchor release to their real date and keep the same shape.)
Step 1 — Lock the foundation (do this before writing posts)
Decide and write these in one short block. They keep all 20 posts consistent.
- The feeling. In the fan's words, what is this song really about? (Not "my breakup." More like "the night you finally stopped waiting for them to change.")
- The one line. One sentence the whole campaign repeats, written for the fan: e.g. "the song for anyone who loved someone they couldn't fix." Every post ladders to it.
- The everyday moment (the reminder). One real-life moment the song fits. Use a version of it in many posts.
- The destination + the free thing. Where every ask points (their link), and the free giveaway that captures a fan early.
- The vibe (optional but helps). Their look, a recurring object, a signature phrase, the kind of lighting and locations. So every post feels like the same artist.
- The artist's energy (optional). One word for how they come across: nurturing, rebellious, dreamy, funny, wise, bold. It sets the tone of the hooks, not the topics.
Step 2 — The 6 videos to film first (the test)
Before Week 1, give the artist 6 different video ideas for this song. Each is a different STYLE and uses a different part of the song. The point: post them across Weeks 1-2, see which one gets the most saves and shares, then make more of that one.
Cover a range like:
- Just you and the song — sing or play a bit straight to the camera, no production.
- A visual mood — a styled, good-looking shot (a location, an outfit, a color) that stops the scroll on mute.
- A story moment — the song under a real memory or a everyday scene, with text on screen.
- Talk then song — say one honest thing, then the song hits.
- Surprise opener — start like a normal video, then cut to the realest line.
- The tease — hum or play the hook without the words, make them wait for it.
Make the 6 truly different (at least 4 different setups). Label them "Film these first."
Step 3 — Write the 4 weeks of posts
Each week: 5 posts = 4 main posts + 1 of the test videos. Plus a few quick Story ideas. Mix it up: don't post the same kind of video two days in a row. Some posts are for reach (fun, relatable, broad). Some are for depth (honest, personal). Alternate them.
For EVERY post, give the artist this simple block (this is the whole value, make it concrete and filmable):

What the ask should be, week by week (this is how you sell without being pushy):
- Week 1: ask = follow for the rest of the story, and grab the free thing. Never the paid product.
- Week 2: ask = follow + free thing + "want to hear it first?" Start warming people up.
- Week 3: ask = listen now + go to the destination link. This is the week you point hard.
- Week 4: ask = the destination directly (buy / join / subscribe / get tickets), framed as belonging, not begging.
Awareness rules per week (plain):
- Week 1 — Get noticed. Hooks are about the FEELING, never the song. Make some bold and broad (to reach strangers) and some quiet and honest (to go deeper). Two angles: one that paints the world/vibe, one that names the exact ache the listener feels.
- Week 2 — Build connection. Now hint a song is coming that says this feeling. Keep it warm and personal. End the week with one post that says "it's out Friday."
- Week 3 — Release week. Now you can say the song name, the date, the link. Make Friday's post the strongest version of your best-performing style. On release day: post your best one, go live to talk to people, reply to comments for the first 2 hours, and point everyone to your destination.
- Week 4 — Keep it alive. Share fan reactions, the acoustic/raw version, the story behind it. Sell the destination openly now. Tease that there's more coming so they stick around.
Make it real, not generic. Use the artist's actual story, their city, their words. Write hooks a real person would say, not marketing lines. Be specific. Specific is what makes people stop scrolling.
Step 4 — After you post: find the winner
Tell the artist, in plain words: after a few days, look at which of the test videos got the most saves and shares (not views, not likes). That style is your winner. Make 3 more versions of it for Weeks 3 and 4. Stop guessing, do more of what already worked.
Step 5 — Keep the momentum (after Week 4)
Give the artist a short, simple "what next" list:
- Re-post your best videos again in 3 to 6 months. They reach new people and bring streams back.
- Keep using your everyday-moment posts (every Sunday night, etc.) so the song keeps getting discovered.
- Send your new fans something every week so they don't forget you (a quick message, a behind-the-scenes, the next song first).
- Your next release starts with these fans already in your corner. That's the whole point: each song grows the group.
Step 6 — Deliver the document
Write ONE clean, easy-to-read document. Short sentences. No jargon. The artist should be able to open it and start filming today. Use this shape:

Put the dates on each week. Keep each post block tight. Lead with the hook.
Step 7 — Quick check before you deliver
Reference (for the AI, keep it out of the artist's document)
The 4 kinds of posts to rotate so the artist doesn't get repetitive:
- Teach: show your craft (how the song was made, a songwriting choice).
- Entertain: show your personality (how you think, what's funny, your world).
- Challenge: a take that makes people think, tied to the song's theme.
- Connect: an honest, emotional post about the feeling behind the song.
Hook starters (always rewrite to be unique and about the listener):
a direct question · a "you" statement that names a feeling · a surprising fact or number · a "POV:" line · a confession · a bold opinion. Never name the song before Week 3.
The thinking behind this plan (so the output is good, not so the artist has to learn it):
- Test 6 video styles and double down on the winner (Nick Ruffalo's "test, don't guess").
- Don't sell to people who don't care yet; lead with the feeling they already have (Eugene Schwartz, stages of awareness).
- The fan is the hero, the artist is the guide; talk about them, not yourself (Donald Miller, StoryBrand).
- Tie the song to an everyday moment so it keeps getting remembered (Jonah Berger, Contagious / triggers).
- Send people to something you own (email/community), not just a platform you rent (Kevin Kelly, 1,000 True Fans).
Keep these names and frameworks OUT of the artist's document. They only shape how you build it.
