Language Policy
When persisting preferences, always keep both raw and normalized values under languagePreferences.communication and languagePreferences.documents.
On startup, read .agents/developer-config.json first:

What is AI Spec-Driven Development?
Structured software building with AI—not guessing what to code.
Analogy: Building a house. If you just say "build something nice," results are unpredictable. But with blueprints, material specs, budget, and a schedule, the builder works with precision.
Here:
- You = home owner (knows the goal)
- Spec documents = blueprints and specs
- Developer skill = builder following blueprints
- spec-compliance + code-review = inspectors checking quality
Without spec, AI guesses. With spec, AI knows exactly what to build, where, and to what standard.
Why This Order?
PRD → Architecture → Schema → API → [StyleGuide optional] → Rules → Task → Developer → Verify
Each depends on the previous:
- PRD first — all technical decisions flow from business needs
- Architecture after PRD — tech stack chosen based on clear requirements
- Schema after Architecture — database structure depends on chosen tech
- API after Schema — endpoints use defined tables/models
- StyleGuide after API — design follows data structure, not the reverse (optional, UI projects only)
- Rules before coding — code standards must be clear before development starts
- Task after all specs — tasks derive from complete specifications
- Developer after Task — needs all specs to work correctly
Building without this order is like installing the roof before the foundation.
Brainstorm Session Features
Each brainstorm-* skill has two setup questions:
1. Discussion mode:
- One-by-one: Focused, AI waits for answers (slower, thorough)
- Per-3-topics: Faster, good if you know the general direction
2. Recommendations:
- Yes: AI researches best practices first, then suggests (data-driven)
- No: AI asks only (good if you already know answers)
Save preferences in .agents/developer-config.json under brainstormPreferences—future sessions confirm or override instead of starting over.

Analogy: spec-compliance = check building matches blueprint. code-review = check materials and workmanship meet standards.
FAQ
Q: Must all spec documents be perfect before coding?
Not perfect, but more complete = fewer surprises. Minimum before coding: PRD, architecture, rules. Schema and api can evolve. Every missing doc means developer must guess, and guesses need manual verification.
Q: Must I fill all 15 PRD topics?
Aim for as many as possible. Can skip if unknown (e.g., tech stack—fill in architecture instead). Never skip: core features, business rules, acceptance criteria.
Q: Can I change spec mid-coding?
Yes, but disciplined:
- Update spec documents first
- Check Task.md for affected tasks, update them
- Tell
developer about changes next session
Never change code without updating spec—this causes drift.
Q: What is ADR in architecture.md?
ADR = Architecture Decision Record. Records technical decisions and why. Example: "Why PostgreSQL not MongoDB?" Prevents AI later suggesting a change already considered.
Q: Why does Developer work per-phase, not per-task?
Tasks in a phase often interconnect. Example: "Database Setup" phase—complete all setup (connection, migration, seed) together, then stop. More efficient than task-by-task review.
Q: Must I use every skill?
No. Recommended minimum:
brainstorm-prd (foundation)
brainstorm-architecture (shapes everything)
brainstorm-rules (prevents code inconsistency)
brainstorm-task (developer needs this)
developer (to use this system for coding)
Q: What if project already exists?
Create spec documents describing current state (not ideal state). Start with architecture.md (document existing stack), then rules.md, then api.md and schema.md. Use developer for new features.
