The single most-misunderstood part of cloud planning is the cost tier. Here's exactly what each tier means in practice:

Tips for Best Results

1. Run the first-run wizard carefully. The 7 questions set defaults for every subsequent plan. If you set "startup" budget, every plan defaults to startup-tier — which means under-engineering for a mid-market client. Pick the tier that matches the company you're actually serving, not the company you wish you were.

2. Always pick the scope honestly. Task scope for substantial work produces incomplete plans. Roadmap scope for a single change wastes time. The scope question at Step 3 is non-negotiable — answer it correctly.

3. The default mid-market tier is correct for ~70% of work. Don't override unless the client genuinely fits the tier you're switching to. Most cost overruns come from defaulting to enterprise; most reliability problems come from defaulting to startup.

4. The plan names the next skills. Run them in order. A feature plan that says "/vpc-design then /iam-policy then /terraform-module" expects you to run them in that order. Out-of-order execution causes rework.

5. Roadmaps are quarterly artifacts, not one-time docs. A 3-month roadmap should be revisited at the 6-week mark and updated. Re-run /cloud-plan with the same scope and incorporate what's changed.

6. Pair with /decision-doc for major calls. If the roadmap surfaces a major architectural choice (e.g., "ECS vs EKS"), spin off a /decision-doc to document the decision with full context.

7. The Executive Summary is a deliverable in its own right. When in Roadmap scope, the Executive Summary section is designed to be lifted into a slide or a client memo. It stands alone.
