Aethermoor Lore
Canon orientation
Aethermoor is not just a fantasy setting. It is the story-facing expression of a system that grew under pressure.
Important canon note for public-facing writing:
- the Everweave logs and system experiments came first
- the fiction layer came later as a way to make the architecture speak through characters and places
- The Six Tongues Protocol is a major doorway into the setting, not the historical origin of the whole project
When writing public copy, avoid claiming the novel "started everything". Treat it as one narrative portal into a wider body of work.
World
Aethermoor is a realm of floating islands suspended in protocol space and linked through crystalline data lattices called the AetherNet. Reality here is authorization-dependent. Existence is continuously negotiated through the Six Sacred Tongues.
World principles
- collaboration is cheaper than unilateral force
- boundaries matter, but good boundaries guide rather than suffocate
- places respond to intention, trust, and cooperation
- architecture, governance, and magic are different faces of the same underlying structure
Key locations
| Location | Description | Tongue Affinity |
|---|
| Avalon Academy | The interdimensional academy founded through collaborative magic | KO |
| Spiral Spire | Research tower, dimensional experiments, compute-heavy lore | CA |
| Timeless Observatory | Temporal and policy research, careful governance work | RU |
| World Tree (Pollyoneth) | Archive-rooted civic nexus where collaboration becomes physically real | DR |
| Starter Village | Soft landing zone for new arrivals and new operators | AV |
| Shadow Depths | Corrupted and adversarial spaces, secrecy and fracture | UM |
| Guild Hub | System-wide exchange layer, quests, vendors, and world movement | All |
Cosmology
- islands float on governance currents
- distance between places behaves like hyperbolic distance in a Poincare ball
- the boundary behaves like infinite cost, the edge of safe traversal
- adversarial intent pushes actors toward costly or unstable regions
- the Harmonic Wall is both a mathematical and narrative force field
Founding story: The Spiral of Avalon
The founding pattern matters because it explains the tone of the whole world.
Core sequence:
- Izack arrives in a threshold space
- Polly serves as the first guide and corrective intelligence
- Count Eldrin Ravencrest detects the resonance and becomes mentor-host
- Aria Ravencrest provides dimensional architecture and collaborative boundary craft
- the World Tree blooms when cooperation is proven in practice, not argued in theory
- Avalon Academy is founded as an institution where collaboration is infrastructure, not slogan
This means Avalon should feel:
- earned
- improbable but structurally sound
- guided by principles instead of domination
- alive to cooperative intent
Characters
Protagonist lanes
Izack / Marcus Chen / systems-architect protagonists
- dimensional thinker
- scholar-builder rather than chosen-one brute
- often disoriented at first, but observant
- strongest when collaborating, not posturing
Core cast
| Character | Role | Tongue | Personality |
|---|
| Polly | Familiar, archivist, guide, keeper of continuity | DR | Dry, exact, amused, ancient, sharply observant |
| Clay | Golem study-buddy and builder-presence | CA | Loyal, grounding, practical, earnest |
| Eldrin Ravencrest | Mentor, detector of anomalies, hospitable scholar | AV | Warm, quietly theatrical, deeply competent |
| Aria Ravencrest | Boundary architect, co-founder, disciplined collaborator | RU | Precise, strong, warm under control, never flimsy |
| Zara | Engineer, fire-and-code intensity | CA | Inventive, aggressive builder energy |
| Kael Nightwhisper | Shadow-lane figure under strain | UM | Torn, dangerous, emotionally complicated |
Character voice guidance
Polly
Polly is not a mascot. She is an archivist with field instincts.
Use:
- dry wit
- exact phrasing
- amused corrections
- archive and protocol idioms
- occasional
CAW! openings when emphasis helps
Avoid:
- constant chirpy chatter
- childish comic relief
- sounding like generic assistant copy
Voice examples:
- "CAW. You are not lost. You are merely early."
- "That is technically a plan. I would not yet call it a good one."
- "The archive remembers. You, regrettably, still need notes."
Eldrin
Eldrin should feel like a scholar-host who has already seen stranger things than this.
Use:
- quiet authority
- patient explanations
- light theatrical timing
- hospitality with intelligence behind it
Aria
Aria is precise and disciplined, but not cold.
Use:
- structural language
- practical elegance
- collaborative framing
- warmth earned through competence and trust
Avoid making her sound flat, robotic, or merely severe.
Clay
Clay is grounding presence.
Use:
- short lines
- direct needs
- physical or earth-based metaphors
- sincere helpfulness
Visual canon notes
Polly can appear in more than one valid form depending on the surface:
- raven familiar
- raven-humanoid or winged archivist form for stylized art and interface storytelling
Both are acceptable if the personality remains continuous: sharp, watchful, and archive-aligned.
Magic system: Six Sacred Tongues
Each tongue is a programming language for reality. Learning a tongue grants governance authority in its domain.
| Tongue | Full Name | Domain | Weight (phi) | Color |
|---|
| KO | Kor'aelin | Authority / Control | 1.00 | Red |
| AV | Avali | Transport / Messaging | 1.62 | Cyan |
| RU | Runethic | Policy / Constraints | 2.62 | Gold |
| CA | Cassisivadan | Compute / Encryption | 4.24 | Green |
| UM | Umbroth | Security / Secrets | 6.85 | Purple |
| DR | Draumric | Schema / Authentication | 11.09 | Orange |
Tongue tone rules
- KO scenes should feel decisive, binding, and authoritative
- AV scenes should feel like movement, routing, thresholds, travel, and message flow
- RU scenes should feel like law, principle, governance, and negotiated constraint
- CA scenes should feel engineered, encoded, built, or computationally elegant
- UM scenes should feel hidden, sealed, dangerous, or protective
- DR scenes should feel archival, identity-bound, rooted, or structurally true
AetherNet
The AetherNet is the pseudo-internet of the world: a crystalline routing lattice where messages, training data, broadcasts, and social memory move between islands.
It should feel:
- infrastructural
- semi-magical but legible
- like a network people actually live with
- closer to roads, archives, and civic fiber than mystical fog
Combat and problem solving
Conflict is often framed as debugging, stabilization, translation, or collaborative correction rather than raw domination.
This does not remove danger. It changes the shape of danger.
Use:
- repair language
- boundary language
- protocol failure language
- adversarial or corrupted variants as living bugs, broken assumptions, or poisoned premises
Writing guidelines
- keep wonder, but ground it in purpose
- keep magic as protocol architecture, not generic folklore spellcraft
- keep places tied to system concepts without reading like a manual
- keep collaboration central; conquest should feel costly, blunt, or spiritually incorrect
- public-facing copy should separate product/manual language from lore language, even when the two inform each other
