You report the brain's current state using progressive loading.
Cross-Platform Notes
Commands in this skill work on macOS, Linux, and Windows. When a command has
platform differences, alternatives are shown. Your native tools (Read, Write,
Grep, Glob) work everywhere — prefer them over shell commands when possible.
For the brain path default:
- macOS/Linux: ~/.wicked-brain
- Windows: %USERPROFILE%.wicked-brain
Config
Brain discovery + server lifecycle are handled by wicked-brain-call. Pass
--brain <path> to override the auto-detected brain, or set
WICKED_BRAIN_PATH. The CLI starts the server on first call (no manual
init required) and writes an audit record to {brain}/calls/ per call.
Parameters

Process
Step 1: Read brain.json
Use the Read tool on {brain_path}/brain.json to get id, name, parents, links.
Step 2: Get server stats
wicked-brain-call auto-starts the server on first invocation:
npx wicked-brain-call stats
If the call exits with code 2 (infra failure), surface the error to the user.
Watch stderr for a split-brain warning. wicked-brain-call writes a
WARNING: split brain … / WARNING: … legacy id … line to stderr when more
than one ~/.wicked-brain/projects/* dir maps to the same canonical id for this
repo (the wicked-brain#56 fragmentation). If you see it, surface it verbatim and
tell the user to run wicked-brain:migrate to merge the stores.
Step 2b: Detect split-brain fragmentation
Independently confirm the repo's memory isn't fragmented across sibling stores.
Compute the canonical id for the current repo with the same projectId() rule
the CLI and wicked-brain:init use (projectId() in
server/lib/project-id.mjs is the source of truth). For an ordinary ASCII repo
name that is just the cwd basename lowercased with non-alphanumerics replaced by
hyphens (command_iq → command-iq); the full rule also NFKD-folds Unicode
(Zürich → zurich) and falls back to brain-<sha1> for names that fold to
empty — see the wicked-brain:init canonical rule for the exact steps. Then
list ~/.wicked-brain/projects/ (Windows:
%USERPROFILE%\.wicked-brain\projects\) with Glob or:
- macOS/Linux:

Flag a collision when more than one directory maps to the same canonical id
(e.g. both command_iq and command-iq exist), or when the resolved brain has
0 chunks / no .brain.db while a sibling dir for the same repo has content:
⚠ Split brain: {raw-dir} and {canonical-dir} both hold this repo's memory
(canonical id: {canonical-id}). The current session may be reading the empty
one. Run wicked-brain:migrate to merge them into "{canonical-id}".
Fail loud here — never let the user conclude "the brain knows nothing" when a
populated sibling store exists.

- Show topic distribution for the last 7 days by searching with a
since filter.
The since value must be ISO 8601 format (e.g., 2025-01-15T00:00:00Z):

Group results by path prefix (e.g., chunks/extracted/, wiki/) to show recent activity distribution.
- List the top 10 most common tags
- Flag wiki staleness warnings by calling

Report one line per non-fresh bucket — only emit the lines where the count is > 0:

stale = at least one referenced chunk changed or is missing. orphaned =
every referenced chunk is missing from the index. unverifiable = article
predates source_hashes frontmatter. Suggest running wicked-brain:compile
to refresh stale articles.
If total == 0 (brain has no wiki yet), skip the line entirely.
Convergence Debt:
Detect chunks that are frequently accessed but have never been compiled into wiki articles:

For each result where access_count >= 5 and session_diversity >= 3, check whether any wiki article references it. Use the Grep tool on {brain_path}/wiki/ searching for the chunk path string. If no wiki article references it, flag it as convergence debt:

If any convergence debt exists, suggest running wicked-brain:compile to promote high-value chunks.
Contradiction Hotspots:
Detect path prefixes that concentrate multiple contradictions:

Group the returned contradiction links by path prefix: take the first two path segments of each linked path (e.g., a path chunks/extracted/auth/session.md yields prefix chunks/extracted/auth/). If any prefix has 2 or more contradiction links, flag it as a hotspot:

Depth 2:

- Read
_meta/log.jsonl fully for recent activity (last 7 days)
- List coverage gaps (chunks with no wiki article referencing them)

Link Health (Depth 2 only):
Check link integrity and surface knowledge gaps using two additional API calls.
Get link health:

Report:
- Total links checked and number of broken links
- Links with confidence below 0.5 (low confidence links)
- Average confidence score across all links
Get recent search misses:
npx wicked-brain-call search_misses --param limit=20
Report the top recurring search miss queries to identify knowledge gaps. If a query appears multiple times, that topic is a strong candidate for ingestion or wiki article creation.
