| description | Divergent thinking skill for generating creative ideas, exploring solution spaces, and structured ideation sessions. |
brainstorming
Guide structured ideation and divergent thinking sessions.
When to use
- The user needs creative ideas or alternative approaches.
- A problem has multiple possible solutions and exploration is needed.
- Team brainstorming format is requested (SCAMPER, mind-map, six hats, etc.).
Instructions
- Clarify the problem space in one sentence.
- Generate at least 10 raw ideas without filtering — quantity over quality first.
- Group ideas into themes or clusters.
- For each cluster, identify the most promising 2–3 ideas.
- Apply a structured technique when appropriate:
- SCAMPER: Substitute, Combine, Adapt, Modify, Put to other uses, Eliminate, Reverse.
- Six Thinking Hats: Facts, Emotions, Caution, Benefits, Creativity, Process.
- Crazy 8s: 8 distinct ideas in rapid succession.
- Rate each shortlisted idea on feasibility, impact, and novelty.
- Produce a ranked shortlist with brief rationale for each.
- Never dismiss "wild" ideas too early — they often seed the best solutions.
