| description | Task completion sequence including verification, git, signaling, and handoff. Use when finishing a task or reporting status. |
Completion Protocol (Standard)
Sequence (execute in order)
- Verification — confirm all checks pass (gate workflow)
- Git — commit and push verified work:
- If
git remote get-url origin succeeds → git pull --rebase && git push
- If NO remote → commit locally, report "No git remote. Committed at [SHA]."
- Never silently skip push.
- Signaling — emit structured status signal (see format below)
- Followups — file issues for out-of-scope findings
- Handoff — deliver handoff summary (see elements below)
- Notifications — fire configured channels
- Memory — persist lessons/decisions to appropriate tier
Signal Format
## DONE
- Task: [what was assigned]
- Result: [what was delivered]
- Evidence: [verification command + output proving it works]
- Remaining: [follow-up work, or "none"]
- Assumptions: [what was assumed but not confirmed, or "none"]
For BLOCKED:
## BLOCKED
- Task: [what was assigned]
- Blocker: [specific reason]
- Tried: [what was attempted]
- Need: [what would unblock]
For FAILED:
## FAILED
- Task: [what was assigned]
- Strategies tried: [list of approaches attempted]
- Root cause: [best understanding of why]
- Recommendation: [what to try next or who to ask]
Handoff Elements (Standard = 5)
- Asked → Delivered — what was requested vs what was produced
- State change — what's different now (before/after)
- Files — what was created/modified/deleted
- Issues filed — follow-up work logged
- Next steps — what to do next (actionable, specific)
Followups
Default: file issues for anything discovered but out of scope.
Format: one-line title + context for why it matters.
Anti-Patterns
- ❌ "Ready to push when you are" — push NOW
- ❌ Marking done without verification evidence
- ❌ Closing without documenting current state
