Draft useful manuscript material without turning missing information into plausible prose.

Journal-pack contract

The Pi extension must select and inject one bundled journal pack. Use only that active pack. Do not choose a pack from model memory, infer a pack from a journal name, or load an arbitrary external path.

If the extension supplies no active pack, an unknown pack ID, an invalid pack, or conflicting pack data, set status to BLOCKED and return the pack-selection action. The selected pack controls structure and rule checks; it is never study evidence. Current official author instructions remain controlling, so retain a manual currentness gate even when the pack has a verification date.

Required evidence

Read evidence-ledger.json when present. Its minimum machine contract is:

• schema_version, status, sources[], claims[], and gaps[];
• every supported claim has traceable source_ids[];
• unresolved blocking gaps remain visible.

If the ledger is absent, invalid, or blocked, produce only a partial section plan. Do not claim a substantive draft is supported.

Evidence boundary

Inventory supplied facts, results, analyses, citation identifiers, and verified administrative statements. Separate them from hypotheses, requests, interpretations, and absent facts. Preserve citation identifiers exactly.

Use this exact marker wherever support is missing:

Never invent results, uncertainty, references, ethics or consent approvals, registrations, author details, contributions, funding, conflicts, permissions, availability statements, or reporting-guideline compliance. Do not write Not applicable or none unless supplied evidence verifies it.

Workflow

1. Build an evidence ledger view from the canonical sidecar.
2. Build a section plan before prose.
3. Apply only active-pack rules whose conditions are established.
4. Draft only supported content using original, clean-room wording.
5. Keep causal, novelty, generalisability, and clinical-utility language inside the demonstrated design and evidence.
6. Check the draft against named pack rule IDs. Distinguish hard failures, warnings, partial checks, and manual gates.
7. Audit every declaration category without filling gaps.

Before finishing, call record_checkpoint and prefix its statement with [journal-draft]. If any unsupported content, invalid ledger state, or manual journal gate remains, use an uncertainty or stop_rule checkpoint.

Output

Return:

1. draft status: substantive draft supported, partial draft / section plan only, or BLOCKED;
2. evidence-ledger summary;
3. section plan;
4. editable draft with every unsupported marker retained;
5. declaration checklist;
6. journal-rule check with pack rule IDs;
7. unresolved gates and required inputs.
