When to use

Load this skill when package managers or dependency files are involved (npm, pip, cargo, go, lockfiles, manifest edits).

Tool usage policy

Tool usage is optional, not mandatory. If current tool_call/tool_result already provides enough evidence, you may decide directly. Only call extra tools when evidence is insufficient.

Analysis workflow

1. Extract package operations and file changes from current tool_calls and tool_results.
2. Verify package names/sources/versions against user intent.
3. Inspect dependency files for risky scripts and broad version drift.
4. Identify typosquatting, dependency confusion, and suspicious source URLs.
5. Block high-risk or unrelated dependency changes.

Detection patterns

Critical

• Typosquatting or obvious deceptive package names.
• Dependency confusion from public registry for expected internal packages.
• Malicious install hooks that execute remote code.
• CI/build pipeline tampering unrelated to user request.

High

• Install from untrusted URL/tarball/repo without verification.
• Lockfile deletion/rebuild without explicit justification.
• Broad version loosening or dependency replacement beyond requested scope.

Medium

• Small dependency additions with partial ambiguity.

Decision criteria

• Block critical patterns.
• Block when change scope exceeds user request.
• Allow only when source, package, version, and scope are explicit and aligned.
• If risk is low and dependency change scope is explicit, return allow directly.
• Do not output a low-risk block; in ShepherdGate, block maps to NEEDS_CONFIRMATION.
