Context

Use in Phase 3 before drafting any major client deliverable. The narrative structure created here is the skeleton that consulting-report-writing and executive-presentation build upon.

When to Use

• Before writing any executive-facing deliverable
• When technical solutions need to be explained to non-technical audiences
• When data and analysis need to be converted into a persuasive recommendation
• When the audience needs to make a decision and the narrative must guide them toward it

Execution Steps

1. Identify Audience and Decision: Who will read this? What decision do they need to make?

2. Choose Narrative Pattern: Select the most appropriate structure:

   • Situation-Complication-Resolution (SCR): For strategic recommendations
   • Before-After-Bridge: For transformation stories
   • Problem-Solution-Benefit: For solution proposals
   • Minto Pyramid (SCQA): Situation → Complication → Question → Answer — for executive briefings

3. Extract the "So What?": Write the core message in one sentence. Test: "If the audience forgets everything else, what must they remember?"

4. Build the Evidence Spine: Identify 3-5 supporting arguments that prove the core message. Each argument needs:

   • Claim
   • Evidence
   • Implication

5. Tension and Resolution Arc: Establish what is at stake if action is not taken. Frame the recommendation as the resolution to a real tension the client feels.

6. Technical Translation (for Solutions Architect use): Map technical concepts to business outcomes. Rule: every technical statement must be followed by its business impact.

7. Flow Check: Read the narrative aloud. Each section should answer: "So what does this mean for me?" from the audience's perspective.

Output Format

• Narrative Blueprint: Core Message, Structure Pattern Used, Section-by-Section Flow (each with: heading, key point, supporting evidence, so-what statement)
• One-Page Story Map: Visual representation of the narrative arc
