App Icon Maintenance

When to Use

• Replacing or polishing the shipped app icon
• Fixing Android, PWA, or Apple homescreen icon quality
• Syncing favicon.svg, manifest icons, and linked PNG sizes
• Updating index.html icon and mobile-meta wiring

Procedure

1. Treat public/favicon.svg as the canonical editable source artwork
2. Keep the mark simple, high-contrast, and legible at both 32x32 and launcher sizes
3. Generate the PNG icon set from the SVG with rsvg-convert
4. Keep public/manifest.webmanifest aligned with the generated sizes and shipped theme colors
5. Keep index.html wired to the manifest plus SVG, PNG favicon, and Apple touch icon entries
6. If the issue references Android polish, verify the 192 and 512 outputs, not just the SVG in-browser

Guardrails

• Do not patch one icon size and leave the other linked assets stale
• Do not introduce drifting hand-edited PNG variants without updating the canonical SVG too
• Do not remove dark-theme metadata while changing icons
• If the icon work affects broader UI surfaces, also use ui-conventions

Validation

• public/manifest.webmanifest parses cleanly
• Generated PNG files exist at the wired paths
• The icon still reads cleanly at 32x32 and looks polished at 512x512
