When to use this skill

• Designing DR for IaaS VMs
• Regulator requires cross-region recovery

Key concepts

• Components: source VMs, cache storage account (source region), Recovery Services Vault (target region), target replicated disks + managed-identity, network mapping.
• Replication is continuous and asynchronous (RPO ~minutes for healthy replication).
• Target VMs are not running until failover — you pay for storage + minimal management overhead.
• Required outbound: cache storage account endpoints + ASR service tags.
• Trusted Launch and Confidential VMs have specific ASR support — verify version.

Common pitfalls

• Forgetting cache storage account adds cost and needs proper RBAC.
