Convert — Espresso

Converts Android Espresso test suites to any supported target, and emits Espresso (for mobile-native round-trip) from any source.

When to use

Trigger when:

• androidTest/ or androidTestDebug/ directory structure.
• @RunWith(AndroidJUnit4.class) / @RunWith(AndroidJUnit4::class) annotations.
• onView(...).perform(...) / onView(...).check(...) patterns.
• androidx.test.espresso.* imports.
• androidx.test.ext.junit.rules.ActivityScenarioRule / ActivityTestRule usage.
• build.gradle with androidTestImplementation 'androidx.test.espresso:espresso-core'.
• Hamcrest Matchers composition (allOf, hasSibling, isDescendantOfA).
• IdlingResource or IdlingRegistry registration.
• Espresso-Web onWebView() blocks.

• Espresso-Intents (intended, intending).
• Espresso-Web (onWebView, withElement, findElement(Locator.CSS_SELECTOR, ...)).
• Espresso-Idling-Resource.
• UiAutomator hybrid usage (UiDevice.getInstance(...), UiSelector).
• Both Java and Kotlin Espresso tests (KTX extensions onView { } DSL).
• ActivityScenario and legacy ActivityTestRule.
• launchActivity<T>(), launchFragment<T>() test helpers.
• Test rules: ActivityScenarioRule, IntentsTestRule, GrantPermissionRule.

Out of scope

• iOS XCUITest — use the xcuitest source skill.
• Detox — use the detox source skill.
• Appium generic — use the appium source skill.
• Robolectric (unit tests, no real device) — flag as out-of-scope.
• Compose UI tests (createAndroidComposeRule, composeTestRule.onNodeWithText) — partially in scope; Compose uses a different locator model, emit with best-effort.
