They work POORLY when the task requires reasoning or deduction -- the model becomes overly conservative and refuses sensible inferences.

Grounding to Provided Context
When the model should not use training data, be explicit about the source of truth:

This is particularly important for hypothetical scenarios, fictional settings, or domain-specific data that contradicts general knowledge.
Quantitative Constraints

When the caller needs JSON output, JSON schema is enforced by API parameters outside the prompt text itself -- not by embedding the schema in prose. The prompt's job is to state the task clearly; the schema's job is to define the shape.
Prompt-level guidance when structured output is active:
