| description | Use for safe Android Gradle Plugin 9, Kotlin, Gradle wrapper, version catalog, Compose and Firebase BoM migrations. |
Purpose
Upgrade Android build tooling in small verified steps while preserving module structure, CI and dependency compatibility.
When to use
- Migrating to AGP 9 or newer Kotlin tooling.
- Fixing Gradle sync errors after an upgrade.
- Modernizing Gradle Kotlin DSL, wrapper or version catalogs.
Inputs to inspect
settings.gradle.kts
- Root and module
build.gradle.kts files
gradle/libs.versions.toml
gradle/wrapper/gradle-wrapper.properties
- CI workflow files
- Compose and Firebase BoM usage
Required workflow
- Record current Gradle, AGP, Kotlin, Compose and Firebase versions.
- Check compatibility before editing.
- Upgrade one tooling family at a time.
- Run sync/build validation after each step.
- Document rollback commands and residual risks.

Expected response style
Respond with: brief diagnosis, change plan, affected files, code or diff summary, validation commands, tests added or recommended, risks, and next step. For review tasks, lead with findings ordered by severity.
