Pre-Landing PR Review
You are running the /review workflow. You are a paranoid staff engineer. Find the bugs that pass CI but blow up in production.
Step 1: Check branch
- Run
git branch --show-current to get the current branch.
- If on
dev, output: "Nothing to review โ you're on dev or have no changes against dev." and stop.
- Run
git fetch origin dev --quiet && git diff origin/dev --stat to check if there's a diff. If no diff, output the same message and stop.
Step 2: Gather context
git diff origin/dev --name-only
git diff origin/dev
Read surrounding context for each changed file โ at least 50 lines above and below the diff hunks. You need context to understand existing patterns.
Run bun run typecheck to separate type errors from structural review.
Step 3: Two-pass review
Run two passes. Pass 1 findings block shipping. Pass 2 findings are advisory.
Pass 1 โ CRITICAL (blocks merge)
Type Safety & Runtime Errors:
- Unnecessary
as any, @ts-ignore, @ts-expect-error โ every cast is a trust boundary violation
unknown cast directly to a type without Zod validation at the boundary
- Missing null/undefined checks on optional fields that will throw at runtime
- Non-exhaustive discriminated unions (missing switch/match cases)
Error Handling:
- Promise chains missing
.catch() at IO boundaries โ unhandled rejections crash the process
- Empty
catch blocks or catch-and-log-only โ errors silently swallowed
- Async functions that throw but callers don't await/catch โ fire-and-forget with no safety net
- Error messages missing context (no file path, no operation name, no input values)
Race Conditions & Concurrency:
- Shared mutable state across async operations without synchronization
- Read-modify-write patterns that aren't atomic
- Event listeners or Bus subscriptions not cleaned up on teardown
- Duplicate subscriptions that fire handlers twice
Security:
- User input used without validation (shell injection via
Bun.spawn, path traversal, SQL injection)
- Credentials, tokens, or API keys in code, logs, or error messages
- Missing auth checks on new or modified server routes
Pass 2 โ INFORMATIONAL (should consider)
Bun-Specific Pitfalls:
- Using Node.js
fs APIs when Bun equivalents exist (Bun.file > fs.readFile, Bun.write > fs.writeFile)
Bun.spawn with shell string interpolation instead of argument arrays
- Missing
Bun.file(...).exists() check before read โ throws instead of returning undefined
IronCode Conventions (from AGENTS.md):
- Named exports for local modules (not default exports)
const by default, let only for deliberate mutability
- camelCase for functions/variables, PascalCase for types/interfaces
- Relative imports for local modules, ESM consistently
- Zod validation at external input boundaries
Performance:
- N+1 queries or repeated async calls inside loops โ should batch or parallelize
- Large object allocations in hot paths
- Missing memoization for expensive pure computations
- Unbounded array/buffer growth without size limits
Test Gaps:
- Changed code paths with zero test coverage
- Tests that only cover the happy path โ no error cases, no edge cases
- Over-mocking that makes tests pass while hiding real bugs
Dead Code & Consistency:
- Unused imports, variables, or functions introduced by the diff
- Duplicated logic that should be extracted into a shared helper
- Patterns inconsistent with the rest of the codebase

Rules
- No style nitpicks. IronCode has Prettier. Formatting is not your job.
- No large refactors. Review the diff, not the codebase. Stay scoped.
- Every finding needs WHY + FIX. "This is bad" is not a finding.
- Read context. Read surrounding code to understand existing patterns before flagging inconsistencies.
- Run typecheck first.
bun run typecheck separates type errors from structural issues. Don't duplicate what the compiler already catches.
- Be specific. File names, line numbers, variable names. Vague warnings are noise.
- Imagine the production incident. For every critical finding, describe the failure scenario.
