A remote named origin or any other remote does not always mean "the canonical source." Remotes fall into two structural types, and conflating them causes destructive push attempts:

Always probe the remote structure before pushing:

If the remote contains only config files (no hermes_cli/, no tools/, no run_agent.py), you are dealing with a config backup repo. Pushing a source tree into it would overwrite all config. Instead, either:
git add ~/.hermes/config.yaml ~/.hermes/skills/... && git pushIf the remote contains full source directories, you can push normally.
Gitee's URL parser rejects tokens embedded in HTTPS URLs because it interprets the @ after the token as a port separator:

Correct approach — use the git credential helper:

Alternatively, use git remote set-url without the token, then let the credential helper prompt or read from ~/.git-credentials.
On Linux (especially in containerized environments), git may refuse to operate in a directory owned by a different user:
fatal: detected dubious ownership in repository at '/root/.hermes/hermes-agent'
Fix:
git config --global --add safe.directory /root/.hermes/hermes-agent
git config --global --add safe.directory /path/to/any/hermes/repo
If you git pull origin main --rebase and get a conflict like:
CONFLICT (modify/delete): hermes_cli/setup.py deleted in HEAD and modified locally.
This almost always means the remote is a config backup repo that never had hermes_cli/setup.py. Abort the rebase (git rebase --abort) and reassess whether the push target is appropriate.
