Hard Rules

- Logic Sovereignty: identify whether the change touches the Main Engine (the project's core-logic module).
- Complexity Gate: You must confirm if the user chose "Full Pipeline" or "Scout Mode" during boot.
- File-Based Handoffs: Each step reads the previous step's coordination file, not the conversation.
Workflow
- Design Tree: Visualize the impact. Identify every module that will be touched.
- The Grill Phase (Mandatory): Run
/lfe-grill-with-docs first; propose a plan only once shared understanding is reached and 01_grill_summary.md is written.
- PRD Phase: Run
/lfe-to-prd to synthesize the grill output into a structured PRD.
- Slicing Phase: Run
/lfe-to-issues to break the PRD into vertical slices. Wait for human approval.
- Risk Assessment: Identify "High Risk" zones (core math, state management, security). Determine if automated tests are required.
- Active Plan: Draft
.plans/active_plan.md for the current slice. Frontmatter follows the contract in COORDINATION_FILES.md:

Plan-Composition Discipline (avoid self-inflicted Inspector-time failures)
When composing acceptance criteria and verification commands in active_plan.md, follow these conventions. The /lfe-plan-critique mechanical pre-pass and lenses check for violations — writing them correctly the first time avoids the WARN entirely:
- Line-count ACs — use a widened tolerance band, never an exact or narrow count. Content renders single- vs multi-line across tools, so an exact assertion false-positives on a correct substrate. The goal is to catch gross truncation, not to pin a precise count (e.g. accept a 20–40 band rather than exactly 30).
- Existence checks — test the path itself; never iterate a directory's children and test derived paths. Iterating children silently tests the wrong paths and can report a false negative on a correct substrate (observed example, PowerShell: piping a directory listing into per-child existence tests where a single direct path test was meant). Reserve iteration for genuinely per-file work.
- Glob ACs — state the expected count and confirm the glob's reach. A glob that matches fewer files than intended passes a count-blind AC while silently failing to verify full scope; resolve the glob and sanity-check the matched set against intent.
- Docs describing a search-pattern AC — use prose, not the literal pattern. Reproducing a literal search string in a doc re-triggers that pattern's own AC on its next run. Describe the pattern in words.
AC-design patterns for doc-edit / archive-move slices
When a slice creates, edits, or archives structured documentation, draft its ACs with these patterns (distilled from recurring doc-slice failure classes observed in production use):
- Section-name conformance — assert each required named section within the document's own body scope, not merely somewhere in the file.
- Cross-reference semantic-inversion anchoring — anchor the relationship word (per / supersedes / companion-to) next to the referenced id; a one-word flip inverts meaning while a count-based AC sees no change.
- Byte-identity sidecar fixtures — snapshot an edited or moved prose zone to a sidecar under
.plans/checks/ before the edit, assert byte-identity after, delete the sidecars at slice cleanup.
- Section-boundary extraction caveats — prefer explicit section boundaries over a fixed-line-count proxy; disambiguate numeric-prefix collisions (a "section 1" boundary also catches "section 10") and give non-numeric headings their own boundary pattern.
- Cross-file scope symmetry — an absence/presence AC on one file gets parallel ACs on every sibling file that mirrors it (e.g. the Floor Map row).
- Edit-mechanism ACs (manually applied doc edits) — when the human applies a docs edit by hand, target the mechanism itself: byte-identity per edited zone, absence of the replaced phrase, a git-status sanity bound, and a line-ending invariant.
- Archive-move ACs — full-body byte-equality of the moved region (via sidecar), a diff-noise bound, a cold-file index-row content assertion, and a hot-file index-row preservation assertion.

Handoff
Wait for explicit human approval of the plan. Once approved:
- Mark the
plan ✅ checkbox in pipeline_status.md's Coordination Files row.
- Invoke
/lfe-plan-critique (Step 5).
- On
PASS (or Brain-confirmed WARN) → mark plan_critique ✅, set Active Persona: Builder, stop. On BLOCK → revise active_plan.md and re-run /lfe-plan-critique. Max 2 revisions before Brain triage (see LOOP_ARCHITECTURE.md Scenario 1.4).
