Intent

Plan project phases using PERT analysis and critical-path identification, track milestone and task progress, and produce dynamic tracking documents that integrate with the EDPS document tree. Owns PERT network initialisation; plan-estimateeffort supplies the duration estimates used as input.

Forward and Backward Pass Calculations

Forward Pass (Early Start/Early Finish Calculation)

Purpose: Determines the earliest possible start and finish times for each task.

Rules:

• Early Start (ES) = Maximum Early Finish of all predecessor tasks
• Early Finish (EF) = Early Start + Task Duration
• For the first task: ES = 0 (project start)

Backward Pass (Late Start/Late Finish Calculation)

Purpose: Determines the latest possible start and finish times without delaying the project.

Rules:

• Late Finish (LF) = Minimum Late Start of all successor tasks
• Late Start (LS) = Late Finish - Task Duration
• For the last task: LF = EF (project must finish on time)
