When to use this skill

• Long-running stateful workloads
• Spot VMSS workloads needing graceful drain

Key concepts

• IMDS Scheduled Events endpoint announces upcoming Freeze / Reboot / Redeploy / Preempt / Terminate with lead time.
• Useful for: graceful drain, leader re-election, checkpoint, cache warm-up post event.
• Approve an event to make it happen sooner if you're ready — useful for maintenance batches.
• Spot VM preemption gives ~30s notice — use Scheduled Events to detect, not OS shutdown signals alone.
• Linux daemon azure-scheduled-events.service or custom poller pattern.

Common pitfalls

• Polling too often — IMDS will rate-limit you.
• Ignoring Freeze events (≤9s) and getting surprise latency in distributed locks.
• Forgetting Spot preemption uses Scheduled Events; OS shutdown signals alone are too late.
