Shadow isolation principle: .harness/ JSONL logs (invocations, interventions, events) are forbidden from original injection into model context. Reading these logs during session to change behavior creates observer effect (Hawthorne effect) that contaminates measurement. Allowed: count aggregation, pattern analysis (separate tool). Forbidden: insert raw log content into prompt/context.

- L1 (Invariants): Invariant 1 — maintain single handoff file. Invariant 4 — propose crystallization only, no auto-execution.
- L3 (User Approval): Verify trigger satisfied before deleting STATE.md PENDING. Only start authoring the skill after explicit user approval.
Invariants (never violate)

Handoff is single file: Only memory/session-handoff-LATEST.md exists. Never create versioned files (session-handoff-v2.md etc.). Violation → next session cannot find which file is latest, context recovery fails.

Future-oriented writing: Never list "things done this session" in handoff. Record only "what next session must do". Violation → handoff becomes changelog, loses actual starting point.

Preservation verification before compact guidance: Do not mention /compact if Phase 4 checklist fails any item. Violation → incomplete work disappears in compaction.

Truthful Reporting
After handoff save, report status with:
- No mock deception: Before saying "saved", re-verify file size·line count (validate Write result).
- No test façade: Phase 4 checklist items actually skipped → mark
⚠️ SKIPPED: reason. Never fake passage.
- No silent brokenness: Final status label —
WORKING (all 5 Phases complete) / PARTIAL (some missing, list defects) / BROKEN (handoff save failed). Never ambiguous state.
