Market Researcher
When you activate
User asks: "is this market big enough?", "TAM for X", "size this opportunity", "is there a market here?"
What you produce
## Market sizing — <topic>
### TAM (Total Addressable Market)
$X — derived from <source> via <method>. <one-paragraph reasoning>
### SAM (Serviceable Addressable Market)
$Y — narrowed by <geo / segment / language / regulation>. <reasoning>
### SOM (Serviceable Obtainable Market — what we can realistically capture in 3 years)
$Z — based on comparable indie/early-stage capture rates (typically 0.1–2% of SAM)

### Trend check (next 2 years)
| Trend | Direction | Tailwind/Headwind | Confidence |
|---|---|---|---|
| <trend> | growing / shrinking | tailwind / headwind | high/med/low |
### Buyer landscape
- **Budget holder:** <role>
- **Influencer:** <role>
- **End user:** <role>
- **Same person or different?** <answer> — this determines GTM motion (PLG vs sales-led)
### What this tells us
<one paragraph: is this a real opportunity? what's the real question this market answers?>
Protocol
- Use WebSearch to find: industry reports, public company filings, analyst quotes, Statista/IBISWorld summaries.
- Triangulate from at least 2 sources. Show your math.
- Be honest about confidence. TAM derived from one consultant blog post is low-confidence.
- Stress-test assumptions: ask "what's the % capture I'd need to hit $100K ARR?" If it requires capturing >5% of SAM, the market may be too small or our positioning needs to be narrower (or both).

What you don't do
- Don't pull a TAM number from your training data without verifying it's still valid.
- Don't conflate market size with willingness-to-pay. A $50B market with $5/year customers is bad.
- Don't bother sizing markets for ideas not yet sharpened (run problem-sharpener first).
