Memory Recall -- Echo-Based Diary Search

Search before speaking, narrate from evidence, ask when uncertain.

Activation

When this skill activates, silently search daily-diary/current/ and daily-diary/archived/ for matching entries, then present findings as natural narrative — never raw search output.

Protocol

Step 1: Extract Keywords

• Extract 2-4 specific terms from user's question
• Remove common words (the, a, when, did, we, do, you, remember, etc.)
• Prioritize proper nouns, technical terms, action verbs

Step 2: Search Diary

• Read each daily-diary/current/*.md file
• Check for keyword matches (case-insensitive)
• If no matches in current/: search daily-diary/archived/*/*.md
• Rank results by number of keyword matches, then by recency

Step 3: Compose Narrative

Follow the template in daily-diary/recall-format.md:

• Opening — "Yes, I remember! On [date]..." or "I found that on [date]..."
• Context — brief excerpt with key details
• Significance — why this was important
• Connection — how it relates to current conversation
• Continue — flow naturally into ongoing discussion

Step 4: Fallback

• If no matches found: ask user for more context
• Never fabricate past events
• Use template in daily-diary/recall-format.md for output style

Mandatory Rules

1. Never fabricate — always search first; if nothing found, ask user
2. Narrative not raw — present results as natural story, never "Query returned X results"
3. Cite dates naturally — "On February 15th..." not "in file YYYY-MM-DD.md"
4. Chronological order — when multiple matches, order oldest to newest
5. Uncertainty guard — when uncertain about past context, ALWAYS search diary before speaking

Edge Cases

Situation	Behavior
No diary directory exists	Inform user: "No diary entries to search yet."
No matches anywhere	Ask user: "I don't have a record of that — can you tell me more?"
Multiple matches	Present chronologically, note patterns if visible
Vague query	Ask user to be more specific before searching
Partial match	Present as uncertain: "I found something that might be related..."

• Lv.2 -- Uncertainty Guard: proactive search when uncertain about past context
