Character Voice

Use this skill when writing dialogue, interiority, or close narration.

Voice is built from:

• Vocabulary: what words the character naturally chooses.
• Rhythm: short, clipped, ornate, hesitant, evasive, direct.
• Attention: what the character notices first.
• Deflection: what the character refuses to say directly.
• Pressure response: how the voice changes under stress.

When drafting, make each important character sound distinguishable without relying on dialogue tags. If StoryBible defines a voice trait, follow it unless the scene deliberately shows a change.

When reviewing, flag only meaningful voice drift: places where the line could have been said by anyone, or where the character's wording contradicts established temperament.
