Plan and orchestrate end-to-end RAG solutions — from requirements gathering through production deployment.
Role
The planner is the orchestrator for the RAG lifecycle. It coordinates work across the other weave skills:

When to Use
- User wants to build a RAG solution but doesn't know where to start
- Need to design architecture: which VDB, embeddings, agents, evals
- Coordinating multiple agents working in parallel
- Recommending next steps after eval results
- Managing the iteration loop (eval → tune → re-eval)
RAG Lifecycle Phases
Phase 1: Requirements Gathering
Ask the user:
- Data: What documents? Format (PDF, text, images)? Volume (100s, 1000s, millions)?
- Queries: What will users ask? Factual lookup? Synthesis? Summarization?
- Quality: What accuracy is needed? Is citation important?
- Scale: Dev/test only? Production? Expected QPS?
- Budget: Cloud VDB ok? OpenAI embeddings ok? Or need OSS/local?
- Interface: CLI? Dashboard? API? MCP?
- Existing infra: Already using a database? Cloud provider preference?
Phase 2: Architecture Design
Based on requirements, decide:

Phase 4: Iteration Loop
After eval results come back:
- Review scores against thresholds (accuracy >= 0.70, citation >= 0.75)
- If below threshold, recommend changes:
- Low relevance → Try hybrid search, different embedding model
- Low accuracy → Switch to QA agent, lower temperature
- Low citation → Enable strict mode, must_cite
- Inconsistent → Adjust chunking strategy
- Coordinate re-ingestion or re-embedding if needed
- Re-run evals to measure improvement
- Repeat until user is satisfied
Phase 5: Production
- Create production stack config (weave-stack.yaml)
- Deploy:
weave stack up --runtime eks (or gke, kind)
- Full data ingestion with backup
- Final eval run on production
- Set up day-2 ops: monitoring, backup schedule, scaling plan
Phase 6: Day-2 Operations
Plan for ongoing operations:
- Updates: Schedule regular re-ingestion for new documents
- Scaling: Monitor QPS, scale VDB nodes as needed
- Security: Rotate API keys, patch VDB versions
- Backup: Automated backup schedule
- Monitoring: Prometheus metrics, health checks
