| name | wikitool |
| description | Run the Rust wikitool CLI for sync, indexing, docs, import, inspection, workflow, and release operations. Use when executing command-line workflows with dry-run guardrails and canonical CLI-help validation. |
/wikitool - Rust CLI Gateway
Treat this skill as a thin overlay.
Canonical behavior is defined by runbooks and live CLI help.
Use normal reasoning, ordinary shell/file tools, and direct editing by default.
Reach for wikitool when you need wiki-aware retrieval, MediaWiki-aware fetch/export, template/profile lookup, article lint/fix/validate, or guarded sync/push.
Usage
/wikitool
/wikitool <command>
/wikitool <command> [args]
Resolution
- Prefer direct binary:
wikitool ....
- If binary is unavailable, use
cargo run --quiet --package wikitool -- ....
- Do not invent flags from memory; verify against help.
Canonical lookup order
wikitool --help
wikitool <command> --help
docs/wikitool/reference.md
Guardrails
- Run
diff before push/delete workflows.
- Run
push --dry-run --summary "..." before write push.
- Do not use
--force without explicit approval.
- Treat the local DB as disposable; use
db reset or delete .wikitool/data/wikitool.db instead of preserving old schema state.
Binary-native workflow helpers

Maintainer-only lanes (docs generate-reference, docs audit, dev, release) require
cargo run --features maintainer -- ... from a source checkout.
Retrieval model
- Treat local files as the editor-facing source of truth.
- Treat SQLite as an AI retrieval index: semantic page profiles, sections, templates, module invocation patterns, references, source authorities, identifiers, template implementation bundles, pinned docs corpora, links, and media.
- Do not describe reference rows as quality scored; use the stored retrieval signals, authority/identifier data, and source metadata directly.
- Prefer
knowledge article-start --view brief as the default authoring retrieval front door, and use knowledge status to verify readiness before depending on local context.
- For new articles and substantial expansions, route to the packaged knowledge-interview guidance by default to set the article's intent, scope, and angle with the user and surface what they know, not only when they know more than the public record; skip it on an explicit opt-out or for mechanical work.
- Keep agent context compact: prefer wikitool briefs (
article-start --view brief, knowledge inspect chunks --view brief, templates show --view brief, wiki surface show --view brief, review --view brief) before requesting full payloads, broad selections, or high token budgets.
