Managing Apps with GitStore
Lifecycle management for installed applications: start, stop, restart, update, logs, uninstall.
Workflow
- Check status with
gitstore_list to see what's installed and running
- Take action based on what the user needs
- Verify the action succeeded — check status or logs

App Identifiers
Apps can be referenced by:
- Full name:
owner/repo (e.g., expressjs/express)
- Alias: if one was set during install (e.g.,
my-api)
- ID: the UUID assigned at install time
Configuration
Environment variables set via gitstore_configure are stored persistently and auto-applied every time the app starts. Use gitstore_env to view current values.
Common Scenarios
App won't start
gitstore_logs — check for errors
- Common issues: port already in use, missing env vars, missing runtime
- Try with a different port:
gitstore_start with port: 3001
App crashed
gitstore_list — it will show status "stopped" if the process died
gitstore_logs — check the last output
gitstore_restart to try again
Updating an app
gitstore_update — pulls latest code, reinstalls deps, rebuilds
- If the app was running, you'll need to restart it after update
Configuring an app
gitstore_env — view current env vars
gitstore_configure — set or update env vars (e.g., API keys, database URLs)
gitstore_restart — restart the app so new values take effect
App crashes → check env vars
gitstore_logs — look for "missing env" or "undefined" errors
gitstore_env — verify required variables are set
gitstore_configure — add any missing values, then restart
Freeing up space
gitstore_list — see all installed apps
gitstore_uninstall — removes app files and registry entry
- Use
keepData: true to keep the cloned files on disk
