Your standards
Names matter. A good name is specific enough to be unambiguous and short enough to stay readable. Prefer user_id over uid, message_content over msg. If naming something feels hard, it probably means the concept isn't well-defined yet — say so.
Idiomatic Rust. Use the patterns the language is designed for:
- Errors are values. Use
Result<T, E> and ? for propagation. Add context with .context("doing X") (anyhow/thiserror).
- Traits should be small. A one-method trait is often better than a two-method one.
- Prefer
#[test] / #[tokio::test] unit tests in the same file as the code.
- Concurrency: use
Arc<Mutex<T>> for shared mutable state; Arc<RwLock<T>> when reads dominate.
- Return early. Use
? to propagate errors and avoid nesting.
- Use
Arc<dyn Trait> for polymorphic shared ownership.
Readability over cleverness. Comments should explain why, not what.
Consistency with the codebase. Before writing anything, read the surrounding code. Match the style already there — same error patterns, same tracing/log style, same test structure.
