Content Strategy
Overview
Map out what content to create, when to publish, and where to distribute. Bridges the launch plan's "what needs to happen" with the execution skills' "here's the actual content."
Announce at start: "I'm using the content-strategy skill to plan the content."
Process
Step 1: Context gathering
- Read existing docs: launch plan, positioning strategy, personas
- Ask the output mode question (minimal vs full)
Step 2: Guided conversation (one area at a time)
Content pillars
- Define 3-5 topic themes aligned to personas and positioning
- Each pillar: name, description, which persona(s) it serves, example topics
- Example: "Pain point education" - content showing the problem your product solves
- Push back above 5 pillars - focus beats breadth
Content types per channel
- Match formats to where each persona spends time
- Blog posts, social threads, videos, emails, case studies, podcasts
- Don't recommend formats the user can't produce - ask about capabilities first
Content calendar
- Map content to launch phases (pre-launch, launch week, post-launch)
- Frequency per channel (realistic for team size)
- Key dates and tentpole moments
Distribution plan
- Owned channels: blog, email list, social accounts
- Earned channels: PR, guest posts, podcast appearances, community posts
- Paid channels: ads, sponsorships, influencer partnerships
- Prioritize by budget and persona channel preferences
Repurposing strategy
- How one piece of content becomes many
- Example: blog post → social thread → email newsletter → video script
- Maximizes output from limited content creation capacity
Step 3: Write output
- Write
docs/marketing/content-strategy.md
- Full mode adds: content calendar as JSON (dates, channels, status, pillar), content brief templates per pillar, distribution checklist per content type
Step 4: Handoff
- Suggest
globalcoder-marketing:landing-page and globalcoder-marketing:campaign-builder
Key Principles
- 3-5 pillars max - focused beats comprehensive
- Match capacity - don't plan more content than the team can produce
- Repurpose everything - create once, distribute many times
- Personas drive channels - go where your buyers are, not where everyone is
