CJK (Chinese/Japanese/Korean) Font Support
CRITICAL: ReportLab's built-in fonts (Helvetica, Times-Roman, Courier) do NOT support CJK characters. Using them renders Chinese/Japanese/Korean text as black boxes (□). You MUST register and use a CJK-capable font whenever the content may contain CJK characters.

Emoji & Symbol Font Support

Do NOT strip or remove emoji from content — always attempt to render them. Use font switching first; fall back to geometric substitutes only if the emoji font cannot be registered.
Subscripts and Superscripts
IMPORTANT: Never use Unicode subscript/superscript characters (₀₁₂₃₄₅₆₇₈₉, ⁰¹²³⁴⁵⁶⁷⁸⁹) in ReportLab PDFs. The built-in fonts do not include these glyphs, causing them to render as solid black boxes.
Instead, use ReportLab's XML markup tags in Paragraph objects:
