Turbine Bot — Locus Wallet Deployment (x402)

You are helping a user deploy their Turbine trading bot to Locus for 24/7 cloud operation.

This skill authenticates with Locus using the user's existing Turbine wallet via x402 (Polygon USDC payment). No separate Locus account or API key is needed — the wallet payment creates a workspace and returns a JWT that works for all API calls.

Locus is a container platform that deploys services via a REST API. Each service costs $0.25/month from workspace credits. New workspaces start with $6.00 in credits (x402 sign-up costs 0.001 USDC). Services get an auto-subdomain at svc-{id}.buildwithlocus.com with HTTPS.

Auth flow: x402 wallet payment (0.001 USDC) → creates workspace + JWT → use JWT for all API calls AND git push deployment.

Important: The trading bot is a long-running Python process, not a web server. Locus requires a health endpoint on port 8080, so we create a lightweight wrapper that runs the bot as a subprocess and exposes a /health endpoint.

Step 0: Check Prerequisites

If .env is not found: Tell the user to get set up first:

No .env file found. Run /setup first to configure your environment,
then /create-bot to generate a trading bot.

If x402 auth script is missing: Tell the user: "The x402 auth script is missing. It should be at scripts/locus_x402.py in the repo." STOP here.

Step 1: Identify the Bot File

If the user passed an argument (e.g., /locus-wallet-deploy my_bot.py), use that filename.

Otherwise, look at the Python files in the project root. Find files matching bot patterns (*bot*, *trader*, *maker*, *trading*). Exclude setup.py, conftest.py, and files inside examples/, tests/, turbine_client/.

If there's exactly one candidate, confirm with the user using AskUserQuestion:

• "Which file should Locus run?" with the detected file as the recommended option

If there are multiple candidates, present them all as options.

If there are zero candidates, use AskUserQuestion with a text prompt asking for the filename.

Store the result as BOT_FILE for the remaining steps.

Step 2: Generate Deployment Files

The trading bot is a long-running Python process that doesn't serve HTTP. Locus requires a health check endpoint on port 8080, so we create a wrapper.

Create these files using the Write tool:

Step 3: Authenticate with Locus via Wallet

Tell the user: "Authenticating with Locus using your Turbine wallet. This costs 0.001 USDC (less than a penny) on Polygon."

Run the x402 sign-up script:

The script performs the x402 handshake:

1. POSTs to Locus's /auth/x402-sign-up endpoint with empty body {}
2. Gets 402 response with PAYMENT-REQUIRED header (base64-encoded JSON with x402 V2 payment requirements in accepts array: scheme, network eip155:137, amount 1000, USDC asset address, recipient payTo address)
3. Signs an EIP-3009 TransferWithAuthorization typed-data message using TURBINE_PRIVATE_KEY (no on-chain tx needed)
4. Retries the POST with the signed payment in the PAYMENT-SIGNATURE header (base64-encoded V2 PaymentPayload with payload, accepted echoing back the requirements)
5. Returns a JWT (saved to /tmp/locus-token.txt) and workspace info

Parse the JSON output to extract: jwt, workspaceId, isNewWorkspace, claimUrl.

Tell the user the result:

• If isNewWorkspace: true: "Created new Locus workspace: {workspaceId}. Starting credit balance: $6.00."
• If isNewWorkspace: false: "Reconnected to existing workspace: {workspaceId}."

If the response includes a claimUrl, mention it as optional:

"You can optionally link an email to your workspace for free token refreshes and a permanent API key: {claimUrl} This is NOT required — your wallet handles everything."

If the script fails:

• Check that TURBINE_PRIVATE_KEY is set correctly in .env
• Ensure the wallet has at least 0.001 USDC on Polygon
• Show the error output and STOP

JWT refresh: The JWT expires after 30 days. To refresh:

• Call python scripts/locus_x402.py sign-up again (costs 0.001 USDC, returns new JWT for same workspace)
• Call python scripts/locus_x402.py top-up <amount> (also returns a fresh JWT)

Step 4: Create Project, Environment, and Service

IMPORTANT: The workspace may already have projects from a previous deployment. Always check for existing projects first before creating new ones.

Step 5: Set Environment Variables

Read the .env file to extract the Turbine credentials:

• TURBINE_PRIVATE_KEY

• TURBINE_API_PRIVATE_KEY
• CHAIN_ID
• TURBINE_HOST

Also set BOT_FILE so the runner knows which file to execute.

IMPORTANT: Security handling:

• Never print raw private key values. Mask them: show first 6 and last 4 characters only.
• Before pushing, tell the user: "Your credentials will be stored as encrypted environment variables on Locus."

Use AskUserQuestion to confirm before pushing:

If API credentials are empty: Tell the user:

Your TURBINE_API_KEY_ID and TURBINE_API_PRIVATE_KEY are empty.
The bot auto-generates these on first run and saves them to .env.

Recommended: Run your bot locally first to generate credentials:

Then re-run /locus-wallet-deploy to push the full credentials.

Or deploy now — the bot will auto-register on Locus, but credentials
won't persist across redeployments. You can copy them from the logs later.

If they choose to run locally, tell them to run python {BOT_FILE}, wait for it to register, then run /locus-wallet-deploy again. STOP here.

Step 6: Deploy via Git Push

Deploy code to Locus using git push with the JWT from Step 3. No claw_ API key or Locus account needed — the git server accepts JWTs directly.

Add the Locus git remote:

Use the WORKSPACE_ID and PROJECT_ID from earlier steps, and the JWT as the password:

Important: The deployment files (locus_runner.py, Dockerfile) and the bot file need to be committed before pushing — only tracked files are included in the git push archive. Create a commit with these files:

IMPORTANT for redeployments: Always use git push locus main to redeploy. Do NOT use POST /v1/deployments alone — it does not include source code and will fail with a build error.

Step 7: Monitor Deployment

Poll the deployment status. Extract the deployment ID from the push output, or query the service's latest deployment:

Keep the user informed at each check:

• failed → Don't panic — check the service runtime status first (see below)

IMPORTANT: "failed" deployment does NOT always mean the bot isn't running. The ECS health check may time out during the initial credential registration and USDC approval phase (which can take 30-60 seconds), causing the deployment to be marked as "failed" even though the container is running successfully.

If deployment shows failed, check the actual service status:

If runtime_instances.status is "running" and/or the health endpoint returns 200, the bot IS running despite the "failed" deployment status. Tell the user it's live and skip to Step 8.

If the service is genuinely not running, fetch the deployment logs:

Common failure causes:

• Health check timeout during startup: The bot's initial credential registration and USDC approval can take time. The health endpoint starts immediately but ECS may declare the task unhealthy before the bot stabilizes. This is usually recoverable — the container keeps running.
• Dependency install failed: Missing packages in pyproject.toml.
• Dockerfile error: Check the build logs for syntax issues.

Help the user fix the issue and redeploy with another git push locus main.

IMPORTANT: After deployment reaches healthy (or the service shows as running), the public URL may return 503 for up to 60 seconds while service discovery registers the container. This is normal. Tell the user to wait before testing the URL.

Step 8: Success Message

Once the deployment is healthy, tell the user:

Your bot is deployed to Locus and running 24/7!

The bot is now trading automatically — it'll rotate through markets
every 15 minutes, place trades, and claim winnings.

Redeployment

If the user wants to redeploy after making changes to their bot:

1. Make changes to the bot file
2. Commit the changes: git add {BOT_FILE} && git commit -m "Update trading strategy"
3. Push to Locus: git push locus main
4. Monitor the deployment as in Step 7

The service URL stays the same — Locus does a rolling update with zero downtime.

If git push fails with 403, the JWT may have expired. Refresh and update the remote:
