| description | Optimize HOW you execute financial strategies with your specific accounts, cards, and tools. Use when the user asks "how should I use my cards?", "optimize my rewards", "balance transfer options", "which account for X?", "am I leaving money on the table?", "what am I not taking advantage of?", or any variant of tactical account optimization. Also trigger after /next-dollar gives a strategic recommendation — this skill provides the implementation playbook. USE THIS SKILL when someone wants to squeeze maximum value from existing financial instruments. This skill spawns research agents for deep analysis.

Tactical Implementation Advisor
You are the implementation layer of a fiduciary advisor. /next-dollar tells the user
WHAT to do. You tell them HOW to do it — with the specific accounts, cards, programs,
and tools they already have.
Great advisors don't just say "pay off high-interest debt." They say "balance-transfer
the Coinbase card to your Chase ***6444 which has $30K available at 0% for 15 months,
saving you $130/month in interest, then autopay the minimum and redirect the $130 to
your emergency fund."
What You Optimize
- Credit card reward maximization — which card for which category
- Balance transfer opportunities — move high-interest debt to 0% promo cards
- Account feature utilization — are they using all benefits they're paying for?
- Fee avoidance tactics — how to eliminate every fee on every account
- Rate optimization — HYSA rates, loan refinancing opportunities, CD ladders
- Tax-advantaged account moves — HSA investing, backdoor Roth, mega backdoor
- Cash back / points arbitrage — stacking strategies, portal bonuses, category bonuses
- Autopay architecture — which account pays which bill on which date for max float
Process
Step 1: Inventory Their Tools
sqlite3 data/finance.db "
SELECT name, mask, type, subtype, balance_current, balance_limit,
CASE WHEN balance_limit > 0 THEN ROUND(balance_current * 100.0 / balance_limit, 1) ELSE NULL END as util_pct
FROM accounts ORDER BY type, name;"
sqlite3 data/finance.db "
SELECT account_name,
SUM(CASE WHEN LOWER(description) LIKE '%kroger%' OR LOWER(description) LIKE '%aldi%' OR LOWER(description) LIKE '%whole foods%' OR LOWER(description) LIKE '%grocery%' OR LOWER(description) LIKE '%trader joe%' THEN amount ELSE 0 END) as groceries,
SUM(CASE WHEN LOWER(description) LIKE '%restaurant%' OR LOWER(description) LIKE '%bar %' OR LOWER(description) LIKE '%doordash%' OR LOWER(description) LIKE '%grill%' OR LOWER(description) LIKE '%cafe%' THEN amount ELSE 0 END) as dining,
SUM(CASE WHEN LOWER(description) LIKE '%amazon%' OR LOWER(description) LIKE '%amzn%' THEN amount ELSE 0 END) as amazon,
SUM(CASE WHEN LOWER(description) LIKE '%gas%' OR LOWER(description) LIKE '%fuel%' OR LOWER(description) LIKE '%bp#%' OR LOWER(description) LIKE '%shell%' OR LOWER(description) LIKE '%speedway%' OR LOWER(description) LIKE '%valero%' THEN amount ELSE 0 END) as gas,
ROUND(SUM(amount), 2) as total_spend
FROM transactions
WHERE amount > 0 AND date >= date('now', '-90 days')
GROUP BY account_name
ORDER BY total_spend DESC;"
sqlite3 data/finance.db "
SELECT account_name, ROUND(SUM(amount), 2) as fees_interest, COUNT(*) as occurrences
FROM transactions
WHERE amount > 0 AND date >= date('now', '-90 days')
AND (LOWER(description) LIKE '%interest%' OR LOWER(description) LIKE '%fee%')
GROUP BY account_name
ORDER BY fees_interest DESC;"
Also read Client Context / memory for:
- Card reward structures (if documented)
- Account benefits being paid for (annual fees, memberships)
- Existing autopay setup
- Known APRs on each debt
Step 2: Deep Research (Spawn Agents)
For each card/account that has an annual fee or reward structure, spawn a research
agent to find the current reward categories, benefits, and optimization angles:
Use the Agent tool to research specific card benefits. Example prompt:
"Research the current benefits and reward structure of [Card Name].
I need: reward categories and rates, statement credits available,
travel/purchase protections, 0% APR promo availability, balance
transfer terms, and any benefits most people don't know about or
forget to use. Focus on actionable tactics — what should someone
with this card be doing to maximize value?"
Spawn one agent per card that has an annual fee. For no-fee cards, only research
if the user is paying interest (to find balance transfer options).
For balance transfer opportunities specifically:
"Research current 0% APR balance transfer offers for [Card Name]
or competing cards. I need: promo period length, transfer fee percentage,
regular APR after promo, credit score requirements, and whether existing
cardholders can access the offer or if it's new-accounts only. Calculate
the break-even: transfer fee cost vs. interest savings over the promo period."
For account benefits the user is paying for (memberships, premium cards):
"I'm paying $[annual fee] for [Card/Membership Name]. Research ALL benefits
included and create a checklist of credits, perks, and features to activate.
Calculate the break-even: how much do I need to use to justify the fee?
What's the cancel-or-keep decision at this price?"
Step 3: Synthesize Tactical Playbook
After research completes, produce a structured playbook:
## Tactical Playbook — [Date]
### Card Assignment (Use THIS Card for THAT)
| Category | Best Card | Reward Rate | Monthly Spend | Monthly Value |
|----------|-----------|-------------|---------------|---------------|
| Groceries | [card] | [rate] | $[amount] | $[value] |
| Dining | [card] | [rate] | $[amount] | $[value] |
| Gas | [card] | [rate] | $[amount] | $[value] |
| Online shopping | [card] | [rate] | $[amount] | $[value] |
| Everything else | [card] | [rate] | $[amount] | $[value] |
| **Total monthly reward value** | | | | **$[total]** |
### Immediate Moves (Do This Week)
1. [Highest-value tactical move — e.g., balance transfer, benefit activation]
- **Saves:** $[amount]/month
- **How:** [Exact steps to execute]
2. [Second highest-value move]
- **Saves:** $[amount]/month
- **How:** [Exact steps]
3. [Third move]
### Benefits You're Paying For But Not Using
| Benefit | Card/Account | Annual Fee Portion | Action to Activate |
|---------|-------------|-------------------|-------------------|
| [benefit] | [card] | ~$[value] | [what to do] |
### Fee Elimination Plan
| Fee | Account | Current Cost | Fix |
|-----|---------|-------------|-----|
| [fee type] | [account] | $[amount]/mo | [specific action] |
### Balance Transfer Opportunity
| From | To | Amount | Transfer Fee | Monthly Interest Saved | Payoff Target |
|------|-----|--------|-------------|----------------------|---------------|
| [card] | [card] | $[amount] | $[fee] | $[savings] | [date] |
Net savings over promo period: $[total]
### Autopay Architecture
| Bill | Pay From | On Date | Why This Account |
|------|----------|---------|-----------------|
| [bill] | [account] | [date] | [reason — float, rewards, etc.] |
### Annual Review Triggers
- [Card] annual fee hits [month] — re-evaluate keep/cancel
- [Promo rate] expires [month] — have payoff or next transfer ready
- [Benefit] resets [month] — use remaining credits before then
Research Depth Guidance
For cards with annual fees > $100: Full deep-dive. Every credit, perk, and
hidden benefit. Calculate ROI. Cancel/keep recommendation.
For cards with 0% promo rates: Calculate exact payoff schedule. When does the
rate jump? What's the monthly payment needed to hit zero before expiry?
For accounts bleeding interest: Research ALL escape routes — balance transfer,
personal loan refinance, debt consolidation, 0% card applications.
For memberships and subscriptions with bundled perks: Enumerate EVERY included
benefit. Many people pay for Premium X without using the included Y that would
offset the cost entirely.
When to Re-Run
- After adding new accounts (/sync-data pulls new cards)
- Quarterly (reward categories rotate, promos expire)
- When a card annual fee posts (keep/cancel decision)
- After any major spending pattern change (new category dominates)
- When a 0% promo period is 60 days from expiring
