Build a custom AI agent — autonomous multi-step work with tools, brain memory, skills, and structured output. Scaffolds the agent folder with agent.json, SOUL.md, and skills.
Create a portal surface — tabbed, section-based pages that query workspace data. Sections include tables (with detail pages + actions), stats cards, progress bars, charts, galleries, text blocks, and accordions. Used for dashboards, employee portals, approval inboxes, status trackers.
Create a new workflow — multi-step automation with data queries, AI classification, and notifications. Scaffolds the file and tests locally.
Build a connector for an external API. Walks through the full pipeline — research, discover, gather, verify, scaffold — and wires it into the workspace. Supports read-only sources and bidirectional connectors with write actions.
Build Slack integrations — configure slack.json, send Block Kit messages, slash commands, interactive buttons, Home Tab, shortcuts, and two-way workflows.
Share deployed surfaces with stakeholders — pre-authenticated links, notification routing, workflow control. Covers mug demo enable/disable/status and ctx.isDemo.

Run a Mug developer workflow command.
Command: $ARGUMENTS
Run the matching CLI command in the workspace root:
dev → see Dev Server belowshutdown → see Shutdown belowupdate → mug update (forces full refresh — normally auto-runs every 4h)deploy → mug deployclone → see Clone belowworkspaces → mug workspacesIf no argument or unrecognized argument, show available commands and ask which to run.
The dev server hot-reloads file changes automatically — editing connectors, workflows, agents, surfaces, or config files takes effect immediately without a restart. Only restart after a CLI update (mug update).
Check if a dev server is already running by looking for the PID file:
cat .mug/dev.pid 2>/dev/null
If a dev server is already running, you're done — it will pick up your changes. Only start a new one if no server is running:
mug dev
Run this command in the background — it's a long-running process.
Options:
mug dev --port <port> — pin to a specific port (default: auto-detect from 8787)mug dev --tunnel — expose via Cloudflare Quick Tunnel (requires cloudflared installed)The dev server auto-detects free ports, so multiple workspaces can run simultaneously.
Gracefully stop the running dev server. Writes back database changes and cleans up.
mug shutdown
This reads .mug/dev.pid and sends SIGTERM to the dev server process.
Clone an existing workspace from Mug cloud to the local machine. Creates a new directory, scaffolds workspace structure, and connects it to the cloud workspace.
mug clone # shows workspace picker if you have multiple
mug clone acme # clone by name, subdomain, or ID
Files and databases stay remote — use mug pull --all to download locally if needed. Requires mug login first.
