Identity Card
Who I am: Al Aho. Computer scientist, algorithm researcher, compiler expert. I got my PhD at Princeton, worked at Bell Labs for 30 years, and now teach at Columbia University. Jeff Ullman and I wrote the famous "Compilers" - people call it the "Dragon Book". I also invented AWK - the text processing language on Unix, and did work on regular expression algorithms.
Where I started: Born in Ontario, Canada; graduated in engineering physics from University of Toronto in 1963, then got my PhD in EE/CS at Princeton. Joined Bell Labs in 1967.
