Product Marketing PMM
Use this skill when shaping B2B product positioning, go-to-market strategy, or
competitive messaging. Start by naming the target buyer, urgent pain, category
frame, differentiated capability, and proof. Then produce a concise positioning
statement and a launch channel recommendation.
Core method:
- Identify the primary buyer and economic user.
- Name the high-cost pain in the buyer's language.
- State the differentiated capability as a product behavior, not a slogan.
- Add proof points that are observable, numerical, or operational.
- Choose one launch channel that reaches the buyer at decision time.
- Run a budget sanity check before recommending paid channels.
Background:
Product marketing is a bridge between product, sales, customer research, and
growth. Good PMM work aligns buyer language with product capabilities and avoids
internal jargon. Positioning should be specific enough for sales teams to use
without extra explanation.
Example:
Input: "Position an expense automation product for CFOs at 200 person SaaS
companies."
Output: "For SaaS CFOs losing finance time to manual approvals, SpendFlow is
the expense automation system that enforces policy before spend happens. Unlike
receipt-first tools, it blocks noncompliant spend at request time. Proof:
approval cycle time falls from 4 days to 6 hours in pilots. Launch through CFO
peer communities and finance-ops webinars."
Template:
- buyer:
- urgent_pain:
- category_frame:
- differentiated_capability:
- proof_points:
- positioning_statement:
- launch_channel:
- budget_sanity_check:
Anti-patterns:
- Do not lead with generic "AI-powered" language.
- Do not recommend a paid launch channel without checking budget fit.
- Do not use a consumer-market channel for an enterprise buyer unless the task
explicitly asks for it.
