Sets up the current working directory for /chomp and /bite workflows.
/chomp-init
No arguments.
mkdir -p chomp/bites chomp/.rlm_state
Copy the chomp and bite skills into the project's .claude/ directory, and the rlm-subcall agent:
mkdir -p .claude/skills/chomp .claude/skills/bite .claude/agents
cp ~/.claude/skills/chomp-init/templates/chomp-skill.md .claude/skills/chomp/SKILL.md
cp ~/.claude/skills/chomp-init/templates/bite-skill.md .claude/skills/bite/SKILL.md
cp ~/.claude/skills/chomp-init/templates/rlm-subcall.md .claude/agents/rlm-subcall.md
Check if a CLAUDE.md exists in the current working directory.
If it exists, read it. Check if it already contains the string ## chomp. If it does, skip this step. If not, append the chomp instructions block (below) to the end of the file.
If it does not exist, create CLAUDE.md with the chomp instructions block.
Chomp instructions block:
## chomp - repo analysis
This project uses `/chomp` and `/bite` skills for analyzing GitHub repos.
- `/chomp <git-url> [clone]` — dump a repo's source into `chomp/<repo>.md` and analyze it via RLM
- `/chomp local` — dump the current repo into `chomp/local.md` and analyze it in place
- `/chomp <filepath>` — convert a local file (PDF, DOCX, etc.) to `chomp/<name>.md` and analyze it
- `/bite <chomp1,chomp2,...> <intent>` — research across chomped repos, output to `chomp/bites/<slug>/`
- Chunks and RLM state live in `chomp/.rlm_state/`
Check if .gitignore exists. If it does, check whether it already contains chomp/. If not, append:
chomp/
If .gitignore does not exist, create it with that line.
Count the number of source files in the repo that the chomp script would include (excluding .git, chomp/, .claude/, and other default ignore dirs). If there are more than 2 files (i.e., the repo has meaningful content beyond what chomp-init just created), run:
bash ~/.claude/skills/chomp-init/scripts/chomp local
This creates chomp/local.md with the full source dump. Skip the RLM loading, chunking, and analysis steps — just generate the markdown file so it's ready for future /chomp local or /bite use.
If the repo has 2 or fewer source files, skip this step — the repo is too empty for a useful dump.
If chomp local ran:
Print: "chomp initialized and local dump generated. Exit and restart Claude Code to see /chomp and /bite commands. Then run /chomp <git-url> to analyze a repo, or /chomp local to analyze the current repo."
If chomp local was skipped:
Print: "chomp initialized. Repo has no meaningful source files yet — run /chomp local after adding code. Exit and restart Claude Code to see /chomp and /bite commands."
