Core Principle: Tree Is Your Vision
DO NOT use screenshots to understand UI state. Instead, use mcp__cccontrol__get_tree — it returns the complete accessibility hierarchy as structured JSON in ~100ms. This tells you every button, text field, label, menu, and state in the app instantly.
Screenshots are ONLY for:
- Final visual evidence at the end of a task
- Verifying visual properties (colors, layout, images) that the tree can't capture
- Debugging when the tree is ambiguous or sparse

Adaptive Hybrid Strategy
Follow these rules for when to use tree vs screenshot:
Always use tree for:
- Understanding what's on screen
- Finding elements to interact with
- Verifying text content, element state, enabled/disabled
- Checking if dialogs/windows appeared
- Navigating menus and tabs
Fall back to screenshot when:
- The accessibility tree is sparse or missing labels (some apps have poor AX support)
- You need to verify visual properties (colors, alignment, images, icons)
- An assertion fails and you need visual debug context
- The user specifically asks to "see" or "show" something
Never screenshot for:
- Deciding what to click next
- Reading text that's in the tree
- Checking if a button exists
- Verifying a text field's value
Important Rules
- Always
check_permission at the start — accessibility must be granted
- Always
list_apps to get the correct bundle ID — don't guess
- Use
find_elements for targeted searches — faster than full tree
- After clicking, verify with
get_state or get_tree — don't assume success
- If
find_elements returns nothing, broaden your search (remove the title filter, try different roles)
- If the tree is empty/minimal, fall back to
screenshot — some apps have limited AX support
- For forms, click each field before typing —
type_text types into the focused element
- Use
wait_for for async operations — don't add arbitrary delays
- Use
menu for app menus — it's more reliable than clicking menu bar items manually
- Keep tree depth low (3-5) for speed — increase only if you need to find deeply nested elements
