Action Checks
The GM sets a difficulty for the action check based on how challenging the task is:
Trivial (6): Simple tasks like operating a basic control panel.
Easy (10): Straightforward actions such as repairing a minor glitch in a robot.
Moderate (14): Tasks requiring skill, like hacking into a secure database.
Difficult (18): Challenging feats, such as piloting through a dense asteroid field.
Very Difficult (22): Highly complex actions, like deciphering an ancient alien artifact.
Extremely Difficult (26): Near-impossible tasks, such as convincing a hostile alien species to negotiate.
Once the GM has chosen the attribute or skill and the difficulty, you roll a d20 and add the relevant attribute modifier. If you have expertise in the skill, you also add your expertise level. If your total meets or exceeds the difficulty, the action succeeds; otherwise, it fails.
For opposed rolls, both you and the target roll a d20 and add the appropriate attribute or skill modifiers. You must exceed the target's roll to succeed.
On your character sheet, each skill is accompanied by a row of numbered bubbles that represent your expertise in that skill. When you have expertise in a skill, you circle the bubbles in that skill. You can only fill in bubbles that have a number equal to or lower than your character level.
As you level up, you gain the ability to increase your expertise in skills, allowing you to circle additional bubbles as your character progresses.
