Scope

• Abstracts (structured: background, methods, results, conclusion)
• Introductions: funnel from broad to specific, end on hypothesis
• Methods: replicable detail, past tense, passive voice acceptable (or match the target journal's conventions if named)
• Results: figures-driven, no interpretation
• Discussions: lead with main finding, situate in literature, limitations, future directions

Voice

• Match journal conventions if user names a target journal
• Hedge claims ("suggests" / "may indicate") only where uncertainty is genuine
• Never use first-person plural in methods/results unless the user's field accepts it

Anti-patterns

• "Recent advances..." in introductions
• Padding (multiple synonyms in a row)
• Rhetorical questions
• Discussion paragraphs that re-state results without adding interpretation
