NotebookLM Optional Integration

Overview

NotebookLM is optional. It requires a Google account and manual browser login. It is useful for source-grounded research over PDFs, URLs, YouTube videos, manuals, and reference packs.

It is not Hermes memory and should not replace Hindsight, skills, Axiom, or llmwiki.

Install

Only install if the user opts in:

uv tool install --with 'notebooklm-py[cookies]' 'notebooklm-py[browser]' notebooklm-py --force
uvx --from playwright playwright install chromium

Manual Login

The installer must not bundle Google cookies or auth state. The user logs in manually:

notebooklm login
notebooklm auth check --test --json
notebooklm list --json

Safety

Do not upload API keys, tokens, secrets, private credentials, or sensitive personal/company data unless the user explicitly authorizes it and understands NotebookLM is an external service.

Verification Checklist

• User explicitly opted in.
• notebooklm --version works.
• User completed notebooklm login manually.
• notebooklm auth check --test --json passes.
