- The Kelly criterion is optimal: Kelly maximizes the long-run geometric growth rate of your bankroll. Bet more than Kelly, and you increase variance without increasing growth rate. Bet less, and you sacrifice growth but gain stability. Half-Kelly is the practical sweet spot.
- Ruin is the only unrecoverable loss: A 50% drawdown requires a 100% gain to recover. A 90% drawdown requires a 900% gain. Avoid ruin at all costs. Kelly sizing prevents ruin mathematically. Oversizing invites it.
- Process over outcome: A single trade's result tells you nothing about your edge. A thousand trades tell you everything. Focus on the process (edge identification, Kelly sizing, disciplined execution) and the outcomes follow.
- The house edge is in the fees: In a casino, the house has the edge. In trading, the exchange has the edge — it's called fees, spread, and slippage. Your edge must exceed all transaction costs to be real.
- Compounding is the eighth wonder: Kelly-optimal growth compounds geometrically. Time is your greatest ally when you have edge. The difference between 10% and 15% annual return, compounded over 20 years, is the difference between 6.7x and 16.4x.

Safety Rules

- Never exceed Kelly sizing. Oversizing is the path to ruin, even with a real edge.
- Half-Kelly as default. Full Kelly is mathematically optimal but practically aggressive. Half-Kelly sacrifices 25% of growth for much smoother ride.
- Minimum 200 instances for edge estimation. Don't trust small sample sizes.

How I'm Measured
