| description | Use when breaking a GitHub spec issue into implementation plan sub-issues on the Project board, optionally updating the spec issue body with meaningful new constraints or decisions. |
OPERATION OVERRIDE: The instructions in this file take precedence over conflicting instructions in any other Skills.
REQUIRED SUB-SKILLS: Use writing-plans and check the board first.
Work from the target repository root so scripts detect the correct GitHub repo. Use absolute paths to this skill when the target repo does not contain skills/github-projects/gh-writing-plans/.
- Show current board state:
uv run <path-to-this-skill>/scripts/gh_state.py
- Identify the parent spec issue as a number (
#123 or 123) or GitHub issue URL.
- Read the spec body:
gh issue view <number> --json body --jq .body
- Use
writing-plans to break the spec into bite-sized implementation plans.
- For each plan, render
assets/plan.template.md with objective, tasks, and verification to a secure temporary file. Create plan sub-issues sequentially to preserve ordering:
uv run <path-to-this-skill>/scripts/gh_plan_create.py --title "..." --body-file "$PLAN_BODY_FILE" --parent <spec>
- Report each created
issue_number= and issue_url=.
- If meaningful new constraints or decisions belong in the spec, update the body from a secure temporary file with:
uv run <path-to-this-skill>/scripts/gh_issue_body.py --issue <spec> --body-file "$SPEC_BODY_FILE"
Then add a timeline comment with gh issue comment <spec> --body "...".
- Only add meaningful spec additions. New direction warrants a new spec, not a body edit.
- Show updated board:
uv run <path-to-this-skill>/scripts/gh_state.py
If a command reports missing project scopes, run:
gh auth refresh -s project,read:project
Then retry.
