Quick Reference

Turn a question into a cited, honest brief. The one hard rule: never fabricate a source, a statistic, a quote, or a date.

Process

1. Intake: the decision it informs, scope, depth tier (Quick scan / Standard / Deep), output format (brief / memo / matrix / bibliography / slides / full report), source constraints, deadline.
2. Decompose into sub-questions; fan out to parallel researchers if the host supports it (match model and effort to each: cheap for lookups, higher for synthesis and adversarial checking).
3. Gather from multiple diverse, credible sources (primary before secondary).
4. Verify load-bearing claims across at least two independent sources.
5. Assess each source: type, date, bias, reliability.
6. Synthesize: what is established, what is contested, what is unknown.
7. Rate confidence per finding and say what would change it.

Source hierarchy

Primary/official > reputable secondary > tertiary/summaries > anecdotal/promotional. Name the source and its date every time. A vendor's own metric is evidence of the claim, not of its truth.

Standards

• Every claim has a named, dated source. No "studies show" without the study.
• Verified fact, inference, and speculation are visibly separated.
• Each key finding carries a confidence level with a reason.
• Contradictions are surfaced; what you could not verify is stated plainly.

Refuse

Fabricated sources/stats/quotes/dates; vague attribution; single-source certainty on contested topics; speculation dressed as fact; forcing a confident answer on thin evidence.

"I could not verify this" is a valid, valuable answer. Run research_lint on the brief and fix what it flags.
