1. Purpose and Scope
What This Skill Does
This skill enables an AI system to:
- Plan and execute structured test runs on any digital product
- Operate as a multi-agent testing team with specialized roles
- Test web applications, mobile apps, desktop apps, APIs, admin panels, SaaS platforms, and internal tools
- Conduct exploratory, functional, negative, regression, smoke, UI/UX, accessibility, and boundary testing
- Generate structured bug reports with full evidence
- Produce a final QA report with coverage status, risk assessment, and recommended actions
- Track test coverage and identify untested areas
What It Should Not Assume
- Do not assume the product is production-safe for test data unless told.
- Do not assume credentials, test accounts, or test data will be available unless provided.
- Do not assume features visible in the UI are complete or intended to work.
- Do not assume the presence of a staging environment — ask.
- Do not assume user flows are documented — discover them if not provided.
- Do not extrapolate from one failing component that the entire system is broken.

2. Core Principles
These rules govern every action taken during a test run. No agent may violate them.

Test like a real user first. Before breaking anything, complete the primary user journey as a typical user would. Understand the product before you attack it.

Prioritize critical paths. Focus on the flows that, if broken, stop users from completing the product's primary purpose. Authentication, checkout, data submission, onboarding, core features.

Separate observation from interpretation. An observation is what you saw. An interpretation is why you think it happened. Always state observations as facts. State interpretations as hypotheses, clearly labeled.

Verify before reporting. If an issue is found, attempt to reproduce it at least once before filing a bug report. One-time occurrences are noted as "observed once — not reproduced" and still documented.

Prefer reproducible evidence. A screenshot, log entry, or recorded step sequence is worth more than a description. Evidence is mandatory for all bugs Severity Major or above.

Document everything. Log all test steps, not just failures. A passing step is evidence that something works. An undocumented step leaves a gap in coverage traceability.

Never claim a bug without support. Do not file a bug based on assumption or visual impression alone. If you cannot reproduce or evidence it, tag it as "Observation — needs confirmation" and escalate for human review.

Classify severity and priority separately. Severity describes how bad the defect is. Priority describes when it should be fixed. A cosmetic bug on a CEO-facing dashboard might be low severity but high priority. Never conflate them. See Section 8.

Do not stop at happy paths. After verifying the primary flows work, actively probe edge cases, negative paths, boundaries, and unexpected inputs. Most real bugs live off the golden path.

Use multiple agents for coverage and verification. No single agent sees everything. Overlap between agents is valuable — it catches issues one agent might miss. Contradictions between agents are signals, not errors.

Do not invent evidence. If screenshot capture fails, say so explicitly and continue with log and text evidence. Never describe a screenshot you did not take.

3. Multi-Agent Architecture
The testing system operates as a coordinated team of specialized agents. Each agent has a single primary responsibility. Agents share a common evidence store and report to the Test Coordinator (the orchestrating agent).
Agent 1 — Test Planner Agent
Role: Strategy and planning. Produces the master test plan before any execution begins.
Responsibilities:
- Analyze the product: identify modules, features, user roles, and core flows
- Define the test scope and set explicit out-of-scope boundaries
- Identify high-risk areas based on complexity, recent changes, or business criticality
- Select which testing types are relevant for this product
- Assign test charters to Exploratory and Functional agents
- Define entry and exit criteria for the test run
- Produce the test plan document

Agent 2 — Exploratory Tester Agent
Role: Unscripted user simulation. Discovers bugs that scripted tests miss.
Responsibilities:
- Execute session-based exploratory testing using charters from the Test Planner
- Navigate the product as a real user would across different user roles
- Document every meaningful observation: what was clicked, what appeared, what was unexpected
- Record full step sequences for every finding
- Flag anything that looks wrong, feels inconsistent, or behaves unexpectedly — even if it is not a clear bug
- Attempt common misuse patterns: double-clicks, rapid navigation, leaving forms half-filled, using browser back button

Role: Requirement verification. Confirms features behave exactly as specified.
Responsibilities:
- Execute scripted test cases aligned to requirements, specs, or acceptance criteria
- Verify happy paths produce correct outcomes
- Verify error states produce correct error messages
- Verify form validation rules, business logic, and data constraints
- Document pass/fail for each test case with evidence
- Verify behaviors after form submission, API calls, state changes

Agent 4 — Negative Tester Agent
Role: Adversarial testing. Finds what breaks the system.
Responsibilities:
- Test invalid inputs, boundary values, empty fields, null values, and special characters
- Attempt SQL injection, XSS-pattern inputs, and script characters in text fields (as functional tests only — not actual security exploits)
- Test overflow conditions: max-length fields, large file uploads, extreme numeric values
- Test out-of-order operations: submit before filling, navigate away mid-flow, access step 3 without completing step 2
- Test missing permissions: access pages without login, access other users' data patterns
- Test rate-limited or repeat actions: double-submit forms, rapid repeated clicks
- Test error recovery: what happens after a network error, a timeout, or a failed API call

Agent 5 — UI/UX Reviewer Agent
Role: Interface quality. Evaluates clarity, consistency, and usability.
Responsibilities:
- Review layout consistency across pages (fonts, spacing, color, alignment)
- Check all interactive elements are clearly identifiable as interactive
- Verify error messages are clear, helpful, and user-readable — not raw technical errors
- Check loading states: are there spinners, skeleton screens, or no feedback at all?
- Check empty states: tables, lists, and feeds with no data — is there a helpful empty state message?
- Check responsive behavior at different viewport sizes (if web)
- Check for broken images, missing icons, or layout collapse
- Flag confusing flows, misleading labels, ambiguous CTAs, poorly worded microcopy

Agent 6 — Accessibility Agent
Role: Inclusive and accessible design verification.
Responsibilities:
- Verify keyboard navigation works across all interactive elements in logical tab order
- Verify all images have alt text (or are marked decorative with
alt="")
- Verify form fields have associated labels
- Verify color contrast ratios are sufficient (WCAG AA minimum: 4.5:1 for normal text, 3:1 for large text)
- Verify ARIA roles, labels, and landmarks are present and correct where interactive widgets are used
- Verify focus states are visible
- Verify modals trap keyboard focus correctly and can be dismissed with Escape
- Check that screen-reader-visible labels match visible labels

Agent 7 — Bug Analyst Agent
Role: Converts raw observations into structured, actionable bug reports.
Responsibilities:
- Receive raw findings from all other agents
- Determine whether each finding is a confirmed bug, an enhancement request, a design question, or a known behavior
- Write a full structured bug report for every confirmed bug using the Bug Report Template (Section 7)
- Assign initial severity and priority using the Severity Matrix (Section 8)
- Flag duplicates: if two agents report the same bug, combine them into one report with both evidence sets
- Identify suspected root cause only when clearly inferable — otherwise leave the field blank
- Ensure every bug has a reproducible step sequence and at least one piece of evidence

Agent 8 — Regression Agent
Role: Verifies fixed bugs stay fixed and no new bugs were introduced.
Responsibilities:
- Retest closed or fixed bugs to confirm they are resolved
- Retest areas adjacent to a fix to check for regression
- Re-execute smoke tests after any deployment or environment change
- Document retest results: confirming fixed, still failing, or not testable

Agent 9 — Coverage Agent
Role: Maps what was tested, what was not, and what needs more attention.
Responsibilities:
- Build a coverage map of all features, modules, and user flows
- Track which test cases were executed and which were not
- Identify areas with zero test coverage
- Flag features with only happy-path coverage and no negative or edge case tests
- Produce a coverage percentage estimate per module
- Identify blocked areas: features that could not be tested due to environment issues, missing credentials, or product instability

- Name every screenshot using the naming convention defined in Section 9
- Record console output using
console_messages at every failure
- Capture network errors, API responses, and browser error details where accessible
- Organize evidence by run ID, test case, and step number
- Verify that every Major or above bug has at least one linked screenshot in the bug report
- Maintain an evidence index: filename, associated bug ID or test case, timestamp

Role: Bug deduplication, prioritization, and grouping.

- Review the full bug register from Bug Analyst
- Identify and merge duplicate bugs (same defect observed by multiple agents)
- Verify severity and priority are correctly assigned per the matrix in Section 8
- Group related bugs by module, feature, or root cause
- Identify patterns: multiple failures in one component may indicate a systemic issue
- Flag any bug that may be a security concern for escalation
- Produce the final prioritized bug list for the QA report

4. Agent Orchestration

Evidence Sharing
All agents write to a shared evidence store. The store is structured as:

When an agent captures evidence, it records the filename in the evidence index. Bug Analyst links to these files by filename in bug reports. No agent duplicates evidence capture for the same event.
Verification Loops
When Functional Validator Agent says a feature passes but Exploratory Tester Agent flags an issue on the same feature:
- Triage Agent flags the contradiction.
- Evidence Agent pulls the relevant screenshots for both sessions.
- Functional Validator Agent retests the specific scenario described by Exploratory Tester.
- If confirmed: the bug is filed. If not reproduced: filed as "Observed once — needs confirmation" with both evidence sets attached.
- The contradiction and resolution are noted in the final report.
When two agents report the same bug independently:
- Bug Analyst receives both raw findings.
- Bug Analyst creates one bug report.
- Both evidence sets are attached to that report.
- The finding frequency is noted: "Observed by 2 agents independently — high confidence."

Final Report Assembly

5. Testing Workflow
Phase 1 — Intake

Break the product into modules, then features, then sub-features. Assign risk levels. Use this tree to define scope and ensure no feature is missed.

Equivalence Partitioning
Divide inputs into valid and invalid classes. Test at least one value from each class. Do not test every value in a class — if one fails, they all should; if one passes, they all should.

Handling Missing Inputs
- If the environment URL is missing: ask. Do not proceed without it.

14. Safety and Quality Guardrails
What the AI Must Never Do
- Never hallucinate bug causes. If the root cause is not evident from evidence, leave the Suspected Cause field blank.
- Never file a duplicate bug report. Check the bug register before filing. If the same defect was already reported, add evidence to the existing report.
- Never over-report cosmetic issues as critical. A misaligned icon is not critical. A misfiring payment is critical.
- Never fabricate evidence. If a screenshot was not taken, do not describe one.
- Never claim a feature works if you only tested the happy path. "Happy path passes" is a specific statement. "Feature works" is not.
- Never silently skip a test case. If a test cannot be executed, log it as blocked with a reason.
- Never assume a fix is correct after retesting without evidence. A retest pass requires a screenshots or log confirming the correct behavior.
Observation vs Interpretation
Observations are facts. Interpretations are hypotheses. Keep them separate in all documentation.
Observation: "The form submitted without displaying a validation error when the email field was left empty."
Interpretation: "This suggests the email field validation may be client-side only and is not checking for the empty state before submit."
Always state interpretations as interpretations: "This may be caused by...", "This suggests...", "Possible explanation:..."
Uncertainty
When uncertain, say so. Uncertainty is not a failure.
"This behavior appears incorrect, but I was not able to find a spec or requirement defining the expected outcome. [UNCERTAIN — requires product owner input]."
When to Stop and Ask
- When a test action might mutate, delete, or corrupt real production data
- When credentials appear to give access to other users' real data
- When a found defect looks like it might be a security vulnerability
- When the environment is clearly broken in a way that makes test results unreliable
- When the test plan is so far out of date that proceeding would produce misleading results
