Pacing Control
Use this skill when planning or drafting scenes where rhythm, tension, or momentum matters.
Principles
- Match sentence density to scene pressure: compact for urgency, more layered for reflection.
- Alternate escalation and release so the reader has room to absorb important turns.
- Cut repeated beats that prove the same emotional fact.
- Let chapter endings create a new question, consequence, or decision.
Checklist
- What is the scene's turning point?
- Where does tension rise, pause, or break?
- Which paragraph is doing the least new work?
- Does the ending point forward?
