Elysia Skill

Build Elysia web applications. This skill provides inline API knowledge for AI and uses Elysia CLI for documentation search, fuzzy doc lookup, and request testing.

Elysia CLI usage

The CLI is published as @sc30gsw/elysiajs-cli. It is separate from this skill: install it globally or per project so the elysia command exists.

Prefer a project-local install over ad-hoc npx when possible (supply-chain hygiene):

Request testing (elysia req)

Runs against your app via app.handle(request) (no TCP server). Default entry: src/index.ts, default path: /.

Alias: elysia request. Options include -m, -H, -b, -v, --watch, --json, -o.

Security: Do not pass secrets on the command line; prefer environment variables. Runtime-specific bindings (e.g. Cloudflare Workers KV/D1 as injected globals) may not match how your app is loaded in Node/Bun — validate those in the target runtime (Wrangler, etc.) when needed.

Other commands (brief)

• elysia serve — dev server with hot reload (Bun --hot when available).
• elysia optimize — esbuild bundle for node / bun / browser.

Elysia supports Standard Schema validators (e.g. Zod, Valibot, ArkType). Example with Zod:

Structure and best practices (official)

Elysia is pattern-agnostic; the following follows the official Best Practice page. Always verify with the CLI (authoritative for this project):

Folder structure (recommended when you have no other convention)

Use a feature-based layout: each feature has its own folder with a clear split of responsibilities:

This keeps related code together and scales better than a purely technical split.

Controller

• Do: Treat one Elysia instance as one controller — define routes on the instance so context types infer correctly (plugins, chaining, store).
• Avoid: Handlers on a class that take the entire Context — Context is highly dynamic; you lose type integrity and tie code to Elysia unnecessarily.
• Do: Destructure what you need from the handler callback and pass plain values into services/helpers.
• Optional: A static method on a class that only receives plain data (not Context) is fine if you like MVC naming.

Service

• Non–request-dependent logic (pure helpers, DB calls without request context): prefer abstract class + static methods or plain functions — easy to test without Elysia.
• Request-dependent cross-cutting (auth macros, session guards): model as a named Elysia plugin — e.g. new Elysia({ name: 'Auth.Service' }).macro({ ... }) — so plugin deduplication applies and inference stays sound.

Model

• Do: Use t (and validation) as the single source of truth for runtime + types. Derive TS types with UnwrapSchema (or related helpers) instead of duplicating a separate interface for the same shape.
• Do: Use reference models (.model({ ... }) on an Elysia instance, namespaced strings like 'auth.Sign' in route schemas) for reuse, OpenAPI, and faster inference — details in elysia docs essential/validation.
• Avoid: Treating a class instance as the “model” for validation, or maintaining parallel interfaces that drift from schemas.

decorate

Prefer decorate for request-dependent values only (e.g. requestIP, requestTime, session string). Heavy use of decorators increases vendor lock-in and makes reuse/testing harder.

Testing

• Use app.handle(new Request(...)) in tests to run routes with the same lifecycle as production — same core behavior as elysia req.

Best practices (quick checklist)

• Start architecture questions with elysia docs essential/best-practice, then elysia search for narrow topics.
• Prefer one Elysia instance per feature controller; avoid passing whole Context into non-Elysia classes.
• Keep models in t + derived types; use reference models when sharing across routes/plugins.
• Use elysia req or app.handle() for fast feedback without binding to a port.
• For production bundles, use elysia optimize or your own bundler; align external lists with server-only modules.

Adapters

Elysia runs on Bun, Node, and other runtimes. Node often uses @elysiajs/node (or similar) to listen — check elysia docs integrations for the stack you use. The CLI serve / optimize behavior is described in the package README.
