Task
Analyze and assign test layers for: $ARGUMENTS
If none specified, analyze the entire application.
Decision Rules
- Pure function, no I/O -> Unit
- Backend business rule or API contract -> API/Integration
- Single component rendering or UI state -> Component
- Multi-page journey or full-stack flow -> E2E
- Could work at a lower layer? -> Push it DOWN
- In doubt? -> Lowest layer that tests it adequately
Anti-Patterns to Flag
- Input validation tested at E2E (should be API/unit)
- API error codes tested at E2E (should be API)
- Pure logic tested at E2E (should be unit)
- No E2E tests for critical flows (always need some)
- Everything at E2E = ice cream cone, not pyramid
Output
Write to docs/test-strategy.md (consumed by /generate-tests skill).
Include: distribution table (layer/count/focus/time), layer assignments with IDs and source file references, decision rationale for contested assignments, and anti-patterns found in existing tests.
Rules
- Reference specific functions/endpoints discovered in backend source to justify layer assignments
- Wide at bottom (many unit), narrow at top (few E2E)
- Critical rules should be tested at multiple layers for defense-in-depth
- Decision rationale is mandatory — justify every contested assignment
